worm gear worn
I removed the screws on the back and base of the mixer. Took off the retaining ring and screws holding the mixer beater bar. Tapped out the retaining pin using an allen wrench and hammer. Carefully as not to scratch the unit. Removed the old grease, the screws holding in the worn worm gear. Replaced the gear, re-greased and reassembled the unit. To line up the retaining pin I used a very small allen wrench to get through the hole as it needed to set down all the way. Then when I wiggled it down it lined up the hole for the retaining pin. I tapped the pin back in place with the hammer and a larger allen wrench. Replaced the screws, lightly greased the gears. I had taken the "brushes" out earlier and learned that they go in a certain way. I also learned that the screw at the back by the wires, by adjusting it tighter or looser controls the speed lever. If your mixer won't work on low speed the screw has to be adjusted!

Motor would not turn on
Initially removed carbon brushes then inserted the new carbon brushes. The motor still did not turn on. Then I removed the brushes again, used a flashlight to look in the hole where the carbon brushes are installed. I noticed that there was a square notch on one side of the hole. I then reinstalled the carbon brushes, ensuring that the beveled side of the carbon brush was installed so it lines up with the square notch. This allows the carbon brushes to touch the motor. I turned the unit on and it worked.

Fast speed on every setting. No control of speeds.
I removed the cover off the back of the mixer. Carefully remove the cardboard gasket around the outside edge. Unlock the nuts that hold the two adjusting screws. Count the turns to remove each screw in order to keep the right adjustment. Pull the plate away enough to remove the control board. There is one long and one short wire that gets plugged into each side of the plate. Watch the location of each wire to make the right connection. Reattach the screws to the proper position. Then install the gasket and rear cover. Check for proper operation.

My kitchenaid stopped moving
My husband looked at youtube to figure out what the issue was. He saw a video that identified that the likely problem was the worm gear. My husband took the kitchenaid applicance apart, as he saw in the video. We ordered the part, it took less than a week to arrive. He rewatched the video that demonstrated how to put the kitchenaid mixer back together. It's a bit messy due to all the packing grease, but a pair of nitrile gloves, paper towels, and an old rag help. We put a garbage bag over the appliance after it was taken apart to protect it from any dust and my curious cat. We let the kitchenaid cycle for about a minute to make sure the gear was greased. I haven't used it to make bread yet, but I'll do that soon. Thanks for supplying the part that saved us at least one hundred dollars and TRY to get a person who will repair small appliances.

motor brushes worn out
Neither motor brush popped out with the spring as shown on videos. Both appear to have disintegrated in part and had to be chiseled out delicately using and ice pick and tapping gently with a hammer. This left a carbon powder and pieces of the old brushes on the counter. Inserting the new brushes was as easy as shown on the video.

I took out the worm gear and replaced it with the new one. It is important to have the correct punches that are just under the diameter of the pins.

Replace power cord
After removing one screw at the top of the rear housing, and the housing you have clear access to the wire attachment points. I useg a very small screw drive to unlock the female disconnects from the male connectors.I disconnected and connected the wires one at a time to be certain I did not misconnect the wires. The ground wire is attached with a screw. The moulded strain releif is pushed onto the main housing cutout and the rear housing tabs slip into pockets at the bottom of the main housing. The screw at the top holds it is place.

Paint flaking off beater; flakes got into food.
I used the website to find the appliance, but had to call the help number because the model number had one extra 'B'. I was told that this was only for the color (black). Using the chart I found the part number and ordered it. It arrived in about 3 days (regular shipping). No repair was needed beyond snapping the new part in to replace the old one.
