Trash Compactor Power Nut Assembly

This power nut assembly is made to be used in conjunction with your trash compactor. It comes with five pieces that include the two mounting pins, two clips, and the new power nut. This piece is beige, and roughly 3 inches wide, and almost 2 inches long. For this repair, you will need a screwdriver set or a multi-screwdriver, a quarter-inch nut driver bit, and a flat-head bit. You will need to get inside of your trash compactor in order to replace this part. This means uninstalling your appliance from your cabinets.

Broken Dryer Knob
First let me just say that Partselect.com is now one my stored favorites in my web browser. I came home from a business trip and saw a pair of pliers on the dryer. I thought that was odd until my wife informed me that the knob on the dryer had broken. So she was using the pliers to select the cycle. Somehow she knew where the missing pointer was actually pointing. Since the dryer was over 5 years old I saw this as an opportunity to upgrade both appliances. Not with my frugal wife. A search of the Internet popped up partselect. I ordered Wednesday morning and the parts where on my doorstep late Thursday. Trust me I was very surprised. Everything worked perfectly. Two thumbs up!!!

Trash Compactor Screw - 8-18 X 1/2
I had to unplug an electronic tape from the inside of the beige control panel and plug the same tape back into the black control panel. I also had to remove the beige handle that was on the inside of the control panel, attached to the door, and replace it with the new black one I'd received. I then installed the black control panel and reattached it with screws and finished replacing the rest of the screws I had removed from the inside of the door.
I tested the handle to make sure it opened the door and locked it like it should and then went outside and turned the breaker back on. Came in and turned on the dishwasher and did a load of dishes. It looks awesome, matches the rest of my black appliances and I am very proud to have done it myself. I also wanted to thank the customer service lady who was so great to work with on the phone. Wanted to change beige dishwasher front to black.
First , I went outside and turned the breaker for the dishwasher off. Next,I removed the screws that held the bottom 2 pieces, that rest on the floo,r in place. Then removed the two beige metal pcs. . Next I replaced them with the 2 black pieces I had ordered and secured them with the 2 black screws I had received as part of my order. Then I removed the scews from the inside of the door of my KitchenAid Dishwasher. This released both the front bottom panel and the control panel. . I took the beige bottom door panel off and moved the insulation piece from the back of thebeige panel to the back of the black panel. Then I intalled the new black panel I ordered and resecured it with two screws until I had finished with the control panel switch out.I had to unplug an electronic tape from the inside of the beige control panel and plug the same tape back into the black control panel. Trash Compactor Air Conditioner Cover Screw
In this spirit of any repair, I replaced them, and it was not the issue. I don't know what I expected.
Ceiling. YouTube. Pacing.
Then I figured it was this part - the motor coupling. I unplugged the machine and took out the drain tube. I leaned the machine back and propped it up with an empty detergent bottle, because those were abundant. Ratchet off a few bolts and the motor comes out. The coupling was indeed broken. The new one slips right in - I tapped it a few times with a mallet for good measure / vengeance. Ratcheted the bolts back on and tipped it back up.
Pros: Washer works now.
Cons: Everest-esque laundry pile to address.
But hey, it worked! I am no handyman and it wasn't too bad at all. Half hour tops. Read more...

Kenmore 80 Series Washer - Agitator Stopped Working
First I screamed at the ceiling, because I have a three year old and an infant, and the washing machine was dead. Then I went to youtube. It seemed like the "agitator dogs" were the issue. In this spirit of any repair, I replaced them, and it was not the issue. I don't know what I expected.

Cleaned up the bowl whilst it was apart (good buildup of junk under the agitator). Replaced agitator, new thrust washer to find that grease should be applied but isn't included in kit (get part not 350849). Grrr.... Applied new auger, cam, dogs and holder. (No instructions in kit for assembling cam, dogs & holder, but you can work it out ok). Applied new bolt & washer, new seal on cap. Installed fabric softener. Could have been a 15 minute job but peace and quiet in the garage makes it worthy of taking longer ;-) Read more...

Top part of agitator (auger) was not turning
Using kit 285587 was straight forward. Removed fabric softener dispenser & sealing cap. It took more time to find the socket set (needed a 7/16 socket) with a long driver (10 inch) than to unscrew & remove the auger & agitator.Cleaned up the bowl whilst it was apart (good buildup of junk under the agitator). lower left shelf support was broken
I removed all contents from the lower shelf. I, then removed both of the pull out drawers. Secondly, I removed the lower glass shelf and the glass support tray. At this point all four plastic shelf supports were accessible. I removed the inner screw from all four supports and replaced with four new shelf supports. Then reassembled in reverse order. Very easy to do!

Hinge pin for drawer lid broke
1. Remove all drawers {3}, shelves {glass 1}, shelf support {1}. 2. Remove two {2} screws from End Cap. 3. Carefully remove End Cap and drawer temperature control part on the back wall keeping them aligned as installed. The part on the back wall swings out so that the tab on the left end of the piece may be withdrawn from the securing slot (hole). The two parts should be carefully removed while keeping the two parts at a right angle the way they are installed. The reason for this caution follows. 4. On the back side of both parts are plastic pieces that, I believe, can be easily broken if you are not aware. The pieces are connected together at the right angle. They are the control arms for the temperature control -- on right side End Cap only -- the left side doesn't have them or the rear part on the back wall. 5. The pieces must be disconnected and removed. You must examine and ponder how they are held in place and hooked together in order to disconnect and remove them without damaging them. The same advice is applicable to reinstalling the pieces in the new part -- End Cap. 6. After reassembled and keeping the two parts at a right angle, insert the tab on the left end of the back wall part into the slot (hole) and swing the two parts back into position. 7. Replace the screws. 8. Done, reinstall the shelf, shelf support, and the drawers. NOTE: I ordered the two screws but they were not needed.

The burner unit slides out easily and after unscrewing the sides, you have to disconnect the wires from the underside of the igniters. The venturi tubes and igniters then unscrew from the underside of the burners which twist right out of the assembly. Re-Assembly is very intuitive looking at it and it all goes right back together as it came out. Took 45 minutes total and that includes fighting with some screws that had rusted onto the burner.
Reading some of the previous reviews, current prices are double to triple what other people did the repair for leading me to believe parts won't be available for much longer. Make the repair while you still can! Read more...

Flames appeared outside of burners
The front burner had a noticible flame coming from the base, so I originally purchased a single burner to replace it (you could see a corroded hole at the bottom). Upon taking the unit apart, I noticed the corrosion was much worse than met the eye.
