The cleaner element, also known as an air cleaner or air filter is a genuine OEM replacement filter for use in lawn and garden equipment. The filter is made of foam and is housed in a plastic/metal frame. Note that the filter cover and the frame are sold separately. The filter regulates air flow to the engine and prevents dirt and debris from entering the engine and potentially damaging it. Over time the filter may become clogged or may tear resulting in black smoke coming from the engine, difficulties starting the equipment, and reduced overall performance. To replace the air filter, remove the filter cover and pull out the element. Install the new filter into the housing and reattach the filter cover. To keep your equipment functioning efficiently, you should regularly inspect the air filter and clean or replace it as needed.

Had no power, would not idle, oil cover cracked, air filter deteriorating
I changed the spark plug and it ran fine and idle good. I though it might be a carburetor problem but I always change the spark plug first. Guess what! The other two items were change as they were cracked and deteriorating. Only needed a screw driver to fix them.
