Question:

If I put anything more than a small load in my washer the agitator will not spin. Does that mean I need a new agitator or is there any way I can repair it?

Cynthie
Answer:

Hi Cynthie, if your cam kit is faulty it could cause the washer to not agitate properly. I would check the cams first. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Question:

How do you rate your cam size? This kit is called the medium cam agitator repair kit but I don’t know what size cam I have ….

Shannon
Answer:

Hi Shannon, great question! A medium cam kit 285811 (which is this part) is the most common, and is approximately 2.25 inches. We recommend either measuring your old cam, or entering your model number to confirm which size you need. For the long cam agitator kit you can order this 285748, for the short cam agitator kit you can order this 285809. I hope this helps.

Question:

I replaced couplers, and agitator kit with cogs, but washer still isn't agitating all that well. Any thoughts : Trans, clutch maybe?

Ken for model number ETW4400WQ1
Answer:

Hello Ken, Thank you for contacting us. It seem that the clutch is most likely the issue. I hope this helps!

Question:

My washer fills with water but will not agatate, what parts do i need ?

gayla mccallister
Answer:

Hello Gayla, that is a great question. If the washer will not agitate after filling with water, most of the time it is the lid switch/latch. If that part is faulty it will not allow the washer to start agitating since the door is unable to lock. Hope this helps!

Question:

With this repair I’ve been kinda guessing at what I need to do but now that the parts are here I need to get the agitator removed and install the agitator repair kit. Do you have any recommendation before I start?

Byron
Answer:

Hi Byron, first you should remove the agitator, then inspect the agitator shaft for damage or rust. If it is bad the complete gearcase will need to be replaced. Next you can install your agitator and cam kit. Best of luck with this repair!

Agitator was slipping

It was easy after watching the video. No need to replace bolt. Recommend to remove the agitator inspect and the order the parts so that you get all in shipping. Grease is not needed and expensive to buy a tube, should have included as small one time applicator. Cleaning took more time then replacing the part.

Agitator noisy and would not turn in wash cycle. The teeth on the dogs were broken.

The repair kit instructions were sufficient for me to make the repair. My only advice is to be patient and study the instructions that come with the repair parts. I would add that I did clean the teeth that are in the agitator mover ( called "auger" in instructions ),as they mesh with the teeth on the "dogs". What what type grease to use on the "thrust washer" I will leave up to someone else to suggest.

Top part of the agitator wouldn't move correctly

I had watched the video when I ordered the parts so I knew pretty well what had to be done..there was a little confusion with the picture part, so I got the video going again and that solved the problem..this eliminated the mystery of the agitator. It also eliminated the sour smell in the washing machine because I cleaned the gunk off of the agitator that had accumulated during 15 years...easy repair..

I could see the agitator wasn't working the wash would go through its cycle. Y could put my hand on the top of the agitator and feel it wasn't catching

I removed the cover ( top of the agitator ) then I could see the clutch like system used. After removing the agitator I could see the 4 dog ears were worn and not catching the gear in the agitator base. I went to partselect.com looked up the washer parts and there it was, pictures of the agitator parts with easy measurements to pick the right one. After odering online the part was in my hand in two days and back in the washer in 15 minutes. Now my wife has her washer running like new again. I thank Partselect for the easy to use website and the quick response for my order. I do have to say this is my third order with Partselect and I'm very sure it won't be my last. Thank you

Top part of agitator not working

Removed agitator cap. Barrier was stuck, so I cut it in 2 by hammering a big knife in, then removing pieces. Removed screw and ifted out agitator in one piece. Separated top and bottom by standing on bottom and pulling up on top. Put bottom back in washer. Replaced thrust washer and other parts in agitator repair kit. and reassembled everything. (Used Gunk plumbers silicone grease instead of "dual action agitator grease".) Barrier cap came with O ring seal, so did agitator kit, so I didn't need the O ring I ordered. Ended up with 2 extras.

The agitator quit working

My boyfriend did the repair just the way the directions said to. The only reason why he used pliers is because we did not have a long enough handled screw driver. It was very easy and quick.
I was doing laundry in about 15 minutes.

Upper agitator not working properly, noisey.

Bottom Agitator was working, but top part wasn't. It was running ok, but not cycling the clothes from top to bottom.
The repair was fairly simple. I took the cap off the center, and down inside was a domed looking disk with an O ring on it. I turned it a little to unseat it, and it came right out. I used a Socket wrench with an 11mm socket and multiple extentions to reach down to the bolt. When I took out the bolt, the whole thing comes out. I got the top agitator piece, it needed one. the repair kit, it needed this also. And a thrust washer that I did not need. The kit came with a thrust washer, and I didn't know it. The washer only cost $2 and something, so I didn't worry about it to much. Had all the instruction, with pic's, so it was no problem to replace. Anyone with a little mechanical know-how will breeze through it.

Wouldn't agitate correctly

First, know that I am the least mechanical person in the world. Second, kudos to this website. Diagnosis was perfect, and the kit worked perfectly! If I were able to do this in under a half hour... anybody will be fine. Be sure to get the grease separately... I used silicone gel because that's what I had.

Saved about $90 probably!

Washing machine auger was not working.

Per the instructions supplied with the kit, I removed the auger/agitator, installed the repair kit, and replaced the sealing o-ring (included with the kit). Very easy job to do.
