Product Description

Direct Drive Motor Coupling Specifications

This direct drive motor coupling (Direct Drive Washer Motor Coupling, Motor Coupling, Washer Motor Coupling, Coupling Kit) provides a cushioned connection between the transmission and the motor shaft. It attaches to the direct-drive transmission and the motor shaft. If this part is defective it will affect the agitator in your washer because of its direct connection with the motor. Your washer may not agitate, spin slowly, or not spin at all. The coupling must be replaced when there is no longer a consistent connection between the transmission and the motor shaft. The coupling can wear over time because of its location between two major parts of the dryer. It is subject to material fatigue over time from normal use, or breakage caused by frequent overloading. The part measures approximately 2 inches in diameter, and is constructed of plastic and metal. This model comes in black/white.

I repaired my Kenmore washing machine replacing the clutch, Motor coupling and cogs. All of the parts came quickly and with good instructions. Best of all there were links to youtube repair walkthroughs. With out these step by step instructions this project would have taken much longer. Now the washer is like new! Kenmore 80 Series Washer - Agitator Stopped Working
First I screamed at the ceiling, because I have a three year old and an infant, and the washing machine was dead. Then I went to youtube. It seemed like the "agitator dogs" were the issue.

In this spirit of any repair, I replaced them, and it was not the issue. I don't know what I expected.

Ceiling. YouTube. Pacing.

Then I figured it was this part - the motor coupling. I unplugged the machine and took out the drain tube. I leaned the machine back and propped it up with an empty detergent bottle, because those were abundant. Ratchet off a few bolts and the motor comes out. The coupling was indeed broken. The new one slips right in - I tapped it a few times with a mallet for good measure / vengeance. Ratcheted the bolts back on and tipped it back up.

Pros: Washer works now.
Cons: Everest-esque laundry pile to address.

But hey, it worked! I am no handyman and it wasn't too bad at all. Half hour tops.

washer would not spin to extract vwater
will not go over step by step here as there are already a multitude of stories on site with exact situation as mine who have already done so.. What I will say is that PartSelect is easily the absolutely best site on the net for a complete problem diagnosis to finished repair experience. Just input your model # and describe the problem and you get instant diagnosis probabilities along with access to a long list of customer Q & A and reviews, along with step by step videos on diagnosing, dis- assembling, and re-assembling along with links to all parts needed and also some secondary tips along the way. The prices are fabulous (example: I got a clutch assembly kit with several parts and 2 additional parts as a just in case for $55 shpg incl, while my local appliance parts place wanted $59 plus tax for just the main part in my assembly kit with a no return policy and no part guarantee, plus it was only 1 day more to have PartSelect pkg arrive than I would have gotten part from local store). This site is FABULOUS !!!

Washer would not Agitate or spin out. Also noticed an oil leak.
I followed instructions provided from Parts Select for removing and replacing the coupler assembly, and also instructions for changing the clutch assembly. I also took it's transmission apart (socket set and flat screwdriver required), drained the old oil, cleaned it, added new 90W gear oil. The instructions covered the swapping of parts very well. Cleaning up the oil spill took as long as changing the parts.

washer quit spinning
Followed the video posted on the website. Everything went great - first repair attempt took about 45 minutes. Time consumed mostly due to the straps that hold the motor in place being very difficult to put back on and that the cabinet was a little difficult to replace due to the amount of rust around the bottom of it. Tried out the washer when done, and noticed a burning rubber smell. Took everything apart again, checked it, and everything seemed to be ok (made sure all four rubber feet were in place on the motor) so put it all back together again. Noticed the smell again so took it apart a third time, and when the motor felt pretty warm, decided to do an internet search for "burning rubber smell after replacing drive motor coupling." The answer popped right up - the replacement parts were not solid plastic like the original ones- they had metal on the inside of them, and needed to be tapped, a bit forcefully, with a hammer and socket until flush on the both the motor and transmission axles. Once the parts were flush, the straps that hold the motor in place snapped right on. Still a challenge with the rusted cabinet, but once all together again, worked perfect! Thanks to this site , I have fixed washers, dryers, and refrigerators and used them now nearly 20 years! I showed my daughter and granddaughter how to repair them and they don't hesitate to pitch in and help or handle the repairs on their own - again with much appreciation to this sitefor the accurate "how to" videos, the right parts, fast shipping, and great prices.

When I’m using my washer it is no longer spinning but it is making sounds like it is, and it is still draining normally, what should I do?
PartSelect logo
Hello Maddie, we recommend that you inspect the motor coupling first. If the motor coupling is faulty, the tub will not spin properly. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

My washer fills up normal but will not agitate and makes a sound like a drill also will not drain.
For model number RAB5232EW1

Hello April, thank you for contacting us. It does sound like the direct drive coupling has given out. This direct drive motor coupling, also known as a coupling kit, is a newer version of the part and is used in your washer. The piece includes new metal sleeves that have been added in order to strengthen the part. Hope this helps!

The basket and the agitator were not working and I diagnosed that I needed to replace the motor coupling. That was a while ago. Now it stopped spinning and the motor coupling seems to still be in good condition, what else should I be looking for?
PartSelect logo
Hi Cleve, it sounds like you may have a problem with your lid switch. Try closing the lid of your washer, if you hear a clicking sound that is a good indicator that it is working. If you do not hear a clicking sound you most likely need to replace the lid switch. We also recommend checking the lid switch wiring harness connection, as it might have come loose during your motor coupling repair. I hope this helps.

My washing machine is acting up and i think it could be the motor coupling or the agitator but would like to confirm. It is spinning during the wash cycle but during the spin cycle it isnt. The basket is spinning good but I think the agitator stopped spinning. Also not sure if it is relevant but the washer seems to be draining normally.
PartSelect logo
Hi Ronnie, unfortunately it sounds like the transmission is bad and needs replacing. This is the transmission you would need for your model 3360629, best of luck with this repair.

After wash cycle it starts to spin but not drain the water out. I already replaced the direct drive pump.
For model number GSX9885JQ0
PartSelect logo
Hi Jason, There is one other part that might be causing your appliance not to drain. The Lid Switch Assembly. If that part fails your appliance will not drain. However you should also check all of your hoses to make sure that nothing is blocking them. That will also not allow your appliance to start to drain. Good luck with your repair!

Washer makes a loud banging noise at end of spin cycle until the tub stops spinning
For model number WTW57ESVW1
PartSelect logo
Hi Stefan, Thank you for the question. Sounds like you need to replace the Center post Bearing and Seal Assembly. This can cause a banging or rubbing noise. I also recommend replacing the Direct Drive Motor Coupling. Both parts are knob to make noise when they wear out and when replacing one of the parts it is recommends to replace both. Hope this helps!

I changed the the agitator dogs and whole kit but washer still barely agitates and agitator turns easily both ways. Do i need the replace the motor couplings or get a new washer? Repairman wants to charge me $200 to come look at it. There is no belt that i can see. Please help i am a single woman on a tight budget , but very handy your videos have helped me repair dryer already.
For model number ITW4300SQ3
PartSelect logo
Hi Alana, Thank you for your inquiry. Some other parts that may fix the issue are the agitator, the agitator coupler and cap and bolt, the direct drive motor coupling, the drive belt, the transmission, the drive motor, the timer, the lid switch, the selector switch and the water level switch. To verify if the electrical parts are causing the issue you need to use a multimeter to check the continuity of each part. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Washer makes a high pitch noise while draining water. It spins and dries clothes just fine. The noise is sporadic. Some times it will do it when spinning. Not sure if it's the mortor coupler or the clutch assembly.
For model number LSR7233BW0
PartSelect logo
Hi Shannon, Thank you for your question. For a problem like that it sounds as though one of those two parts has either debris causing the noise or they have worn down a bit. I think you should check your clutch assembly first, and then also do a physical check on your coupler as well. Without looking at your appliance myself, I could not say which one it would be exactly because it could be either. Good luck with your repair.

Hi, my washing machine does not agitate. It spins fine and everything seems to work fine. I replaced the agitator repair kit and checked the direct drive motor coupling, but there is no visible damage. Could it be that is just worn out or what other parts might be faulty?
For model number WTW5200VQ2
PartSelect logo
Hello David, Thanks for your question. We would advise checking the drive block as well for any signs of damage and replacing it if it is not intact. I hope this helps.

Will this part fix....start a wash cycle, it fills up and agitates for a decent time but then starts spinning but not draining, it's pumping the water back up top into the washer and will continue to do so until you stop the machine
For model number GSX9885JQ0

Hello Jason, Thank you for the question. Sounds like you need to replace the Direct Drive Water Pump. This direct drive water pump, also known as washing machine drain pump. If this part is defective it will not pump the water out of the appliance. Good luck with this repair!
