Question:

Does the start switch go out at once.Or does it act up?

Joan for model number Dwsr48ea1ww
Answer:

Hello Joan, that is a great question. The shaft on that switch can wear out and cause the knob to slip. If you determine that is not the case then the switch is bad and will need to be replaced. Hope this helps!

Question:

The dryer starts when i turn the knob, but i have to hold the knob to keep it running. As soon as i let go, the dryer stops.

Michele for model number DPSR4483ea1WW
Answer:

Hi Michele, Thank you for your question. It sounds like you may need to check this switch with a multimeter to see if it is still working correctly. After removing the switch and touching each probe of your multimeter to the prongs of your switch, press down on the shaft to actuate it. If the meter does not change, then you may have to replace the part. Good luck with your repair.

Question:

My GE profile dryer will not start. I called a appliance service who told me the problem is one of two issues: (1) the rotary starter switch is worn out or the fuse is bad. My question: Where is the rotary starter switch located ? Is there a fuse in the dryer ?? if so where is it located? I assume they are next to the motor. I read this GE dryer owner's manual, i checked my home circuit breakers. they are not tripped. thank you so very much for helping me.

Thomas for model number DPXR473EW1WW
Answer:

Hi Thomas, Thank you for your inquiry. You do not have a fuse on your dryer, but there actually could be a few parts that will cause your dryer not to run. I have listed them all in links down below. Your rotary switch would be located right behind the knob that you turn to start your machine in the control panel. I would also suggest taking a look at all your thermostats and taking a look at your door switch. Even if your light is going off and on, if there is a component in the door switch that is malfunctioning then the machine will not work because it thinks that the door is open. I hope this helps. Good luck with your repair.

The control switch broke off flush from the start switch

My wife was attempting to start a load of laundry when the start knob came off in her hand. I figured the inside of the knob had broken loose and the stem from the rotary start switch would be sticking out, well the stem had broken off flush and the knob was fine. After ordering a replacement, I jerry rigged the broken one with a large screw driven into it and put it back in place, worked great, just had to put a screwdriver into the screw and turn it to get the dryer to start. I felt it was fine to stay that way but the wife insisted we install the new one to put the knob back in place. The new switch arrived very quickly and went into without a problem, just four screws to remove the panel, two wire connections and was working again.

Stem of rotary start switch broke off

Fairly simple. removed start wwitch by rotating it out of its position. There is realy only one way to remove it and it is intuitive. The new part is simply placed n the only position that the part will fit in the panel. Once the part is locked in placed, the new part is installed. Simply take you time and think it thru.

Start knob was broken off flush with switch

I turned off the power, unscrewed the 4 screws from the top of the dryer. I then opened it and turned the switch that was in there counterclockwise exactly as utube video said to do. I then took off the two wires from the old switch. The rotary start switch fix right in where the old one was. I put the panel back together, put on the old knob and turned the power back on! It took less than 15 minutes from start to finish! If I can do it anyone can! Joanne Klinkhammer Cecil, Wisconsin

Broken spindle which required a total switch replacement.

It took longer to vaccume the lint out of the machine than to change the part.

The part replacement is done without any tools.

My wife could have done it

Timers are made to turn clockwise and break when turned counter clockwise

We are a retirement community and when we opened March '07 the company purchased GE washer and dryers to go in our common area laundry rooms for the residents to use. Because of their age, they will often turn the knob counter clockwise and not the right diirection which breaks the device which is not good. With in 3 days of installation they had broken 2 of the new knobs.
But, the ordering was simple, the shipment was fast and the install was quick for the maintenance tech.

Start switch broke off

I followed the video instructions. I did have to run to the hardware store to pick up a torx screwdriver but otherwise the instructions were perfect. I generally hire someone to do repairs, but this was too easy! I highly recommend doing this yourself as it is definitely a time and money saver. The website made ordering easy and the part arrived quickly!
