Dryer Repair by a Novice!!
I am just a homeowner who has not done a whole lot of work on appliances. We have an older gas dryer at our summer cottage................ and it recently broke. This cottage is in a rather remote part of northern Michigan and there are no appliance repair shops around. Once I realized it was just the belt that broke I looked up PartSelect on the web. Your graphics, photos and parts description were great........very easy for the novice to understand! Although I could not find the part number for my old dryer, I was able to measure the belt length and found one on your site that fit the description. It was very promplty shipped and delivered and I had the machine fixed in less than a week. (My wife thinks I'm a HERO, but I know that PartSelect is the real HERO! Thanks very much!!

Dryer leaving marks on clothes. Clothes were getting caught between drum and outside ring. Worn slides.
Remove top panel and front panel. 12 Screws. Be sure to vacuum entire inside of cabinet free of lint.
Dryer motor was running, but the drum stopped turning. The drive belt was broken.
I followed the instructions in your detailed online video. Fortunately on my model there was a removable panel on the back of the dryer which provided easy access to install the drive belt on the motor pulley and the idler pulley. Great video and very easy repair.

Bad Drive-Belt, Follower wheel and two front slider pads.
Unplug the AC cord. Open dryer door and unscrew 4 small Phillips screws that hold the top panel to the front panel. Tilt up the top panel. To remove the front panel: Look on the inside of the front panel, disconnect all the wire connections that go to/from the front panel, such as the light and door switch. Remove 2 screws that

Remove the front panel. Go to the back of the dryer. Remove the 8 screws holding the lower access panel (8mm or 5/16"). Remove the access panel. Also, remove the 2"x4" access plate in the center of the back panel (2 8mm/5/16"). Reach inside the small panel opening with a needle nose pliers and remove a Cir-clip and washer that holds the rear drum bearing shaft in place. Now you can remove the drum straight forward. Clean, clean, clean the insides. Replace the worn drive belt, follower wheel and front slider pads as needed. Reverse the procedure to reassemble. Plug in and test. Drink beer.

Drum was not turning
This is the third time for a belt on this 28 year old dryer. Not too much to it. Unplug the dryer. Open the door. Remove the screws holding on the front panel and loosen the screw at the bottom. Disconnect the wires to the door switch and lift off the front panel and start up the shop vac to clean out the lint - there is a lot to be found
... Read more in various places. Slide the new belt over the front of the drum and make sure there are no twists. You can now reverse the order to mounte the front panel but don't close the top so you have light to see inside. Go around to the back panel and remove the machine bolts holding on the access panel at the back. This allows access to the motor and belt tensioner. Get the shop vac out here and get to some more lint. Google the model number to find a diagram on how to route the belt. Put the belt on the motor shaft and around the tensioner as depicted. Occaisionally the plastic idler pully is worn and this can be the cause of the brokent belt. If the idler wheel does not spin freely, squeads or is cracked it should be replaced or you will be right back replacing the belt again. If all is fine it is time for a test run. CAUTION - you can plug the dryer in but keep your hands out of the cabinet as there are live exposed 220 volt terminals exposed. This allows you to observe that all is working and not binding during a test run with NO heat. If all is fine, unplug the dryer and put the covers back on. Reconnect the exhaust hose (now is a good time to clean that and the vent to outdoors as well).

Replacing the bearing and belt on a GE DDE6350BBL dryer
My belt broke and landed up in the bottom of the case, therefore no problem removing it. Having to replace the belt I decided to renew the bearing at the same time. Detailed instructions, with comments follow for those of you attempting this repair. Most imp

First unplug the appliance. Always unplug the appliance before doing any repair. With the appliance stood in a space where it is accessible all round begin. Open the front door and remove the small Phillips screws located at the top of the front panel. ( You have to look upwards to see them, normally four screws ) The cabinet top can now be lifted carefully upwards. It is a good idea to use a piece of 2 x 4 to hold this in a raised position for the time being. Inside the cabinet on the right at the top, behind the door open switch, remove the two electrical slide connectors from the switch. Remove the hex headed screws securing the bottom kicking plate, ( four screws ) Remove the two longer hex screws securing the bottom of the front panel, ( two screws ) Look inside the cabinet, each side towards the top there is one hex headed screw securing the top of the front panel to the sides ( two screws ) Hint head of screw faces back of cabinet. The front panel can now be removed by lifting slightly up and away from the rest of the case. Do not try to move it too far, just turn it through ninety degrees and lean it against something heavy. Hopefully placed there to lean it on before you started. Using a torx screw bit, remove the three torx screws securing the drum onto the bearing. ( A noise will be heard like something dropping, we will take care of this later.) Lift the drum out of the case and set it aside. Using a Phillips screwdriver remove the four screws securing the bearing to the casing. Lift out the complete old bearing assembly. Now is the time to thoroughly clean all the parts, before reassembly. A Hoover with a crevice tool is good for removing most of the lint in and around the case. In severe cases it might be necessary to use a wire brush to loosen the lint. Look in the bottom of the case and find the spacer, which fell off when you removed the drum. It is circular with a large hole in the centre and six holes around the side. It is a good idea if you are adventurous, to remove the slide connectors for the heater elements and remove this assembly for cleaning. If you are not adventurous then cleaning it while installed is possible but be careful of the wire spirals, they are fragile
Helpful hint. At this point take one of the old screws, which secured the bearing into the house. Take this screw to a good hardware store and ask for two extra screws three inches long with the same thread. Make certain the thread is the same. Bring your new screws home, put them in a vice and saw off the heads, thus leaving two pieces of threaded rod three inches long of the correct thread. Doing this will save you a lot of aggravation later.
To replace the bearing, assemble the new bearing with a small quantity of high heat grease applied to the bearing surfaces. The old circlip can be reused without problem as long as it was not damaged when removing it.
Hint the new bearing is supplied with an 'o' ring in the groove where the circlip goes, this 'o' ring has to be removed before assembly.
If you have removed the heater assembly for cleaning it should be reinstalled now. Install the new bearing in the casing using the four new screws provided. Carefully screw your two threaded rods into two of the three holes in the bearing surface. Locate the spacer plate onto the threaded rods and slide back until it is in the correct position. Hint, it will only go on one way round, with all the holes lining up correctly. Place the new belt loosely around the drum before it is installed in

Looking for instructions on how to replace a new drive belt ,(old one broke don't know how the belt was attached around the idler pulley wheel and the drive wheel ) have installed the new belt , but no tension on the belt ,when placed under and around the 2 wheels..... thanks
For model number DDCE5300GCL
Hi Larry,
Thank you for your inquiry. You should also place your belt around your dryer drum as well. A previous customer had a good repair story:
"First I took the dryer apart 1st thing i did was unplug the power supply (safety first) then I removed the top of the unit then removed the front cleaned all the lint from the inside of the cabinet I found the proper belt size on part select.com the next day I had my dryer belt delivered (which cost 1/3 the price of the local repair shop price).
Then I placed the belt over the dryer drum and made sure it was in the general location it should be I then replaced the front cover and the top. then I removed the rear cover which was held on by six 5/16 sheet metal screws which gave me access to the drive pulley and belt tensioner the belt goes on by going under the tensioner then around the drive pulley.
Then I rotated the drum by hand to make sure everything had clearance I then buttoned everything up plugged it and started it up it worked fine and I figure Ill get another 8 years out of it. Thank you partselect.com"
Good luck with your repair!

Hi Abigail, Thank you for the question. We do not recommend using universal or after market parts. We can only suggest using the OEM parts for the appliance. Hope this help!
