Solenoid and screws rust until the solenoid will not function and the assembly flapper will not close.
Removed all parts necessary, solenoid, recess retainer, dispencer door recess crank, and assembly flapper. Hardest part was getting old highly rusted screws out so I could remove the necessary parts. I replaced all screws with stainless steal screws, so the next time they will come out easier. This is the second time i've had to replace the solenoid because of rusty solenoid plunger, very poor design, not to mention the couple times i've taken the solenoid out to clean off the rust, but eventually its stops working because of the excessive rust on the plunger.

The ice no longer dispensed
After consulting and paying a repair person $50 to come out and attempt to fix the issue, I located this website and after reading some of the blogs decided to go ahead and purchase the entire ice bucket and auger assembly since it was actually less than a repair that couldn't be done. I wish I had seen this website first. I would have saved $50! It took 5 minutes and that included retrieving the package from your front porch, opening it up and replacing the old bucket with the new one. No tools are needed. No skill is needed! Don't waste your time or money trying to repair it or calling a repair person! Easy peasy!

The plastic cup that interfaces with the ice dispenser drive screw breaks if the auger gets jammed
Remove the ice bin from the freezer, and empty the ice from it. Remove two screws on each side of the bin to remove the bottom cover. Remove the screw from the ice door actuator shaft, then disengage it from the ice door. Turn over the bin, and using two flat-blade screw drivers, gently pry apart the tapered end of the bin, freeing the tabs. Pull out the assembly, take note of the ice crushing assembly, remove the broken plastic cup, and replace with the new part. Place the cup-end of the auger in to the bin, then snap the tapered end back in to the bin, taking care that the ice crushing mechanism is re-installed correctly. Reverse the disassembly instructions to assemble.

ice dispenser chute kept freezing with condensation
The flapper on the ice chute was curled up and not creating a good seat, so the chute kept clogging up with frozen condensation, especially during the humid summer months. The online video made it so easy to replace the part myself. I was able to fix the problem in under 15 minutes and at a fraction of the price!

Ice Maker stopped working
Took out one hex screw, disconnect electric couplings, pulled original ice maker out and found that the water supply line to the ice maker was frozen solid as well as the shute cup. Used hair dryer to thaw out the line and the cup reinstaled old ice maker and it worked fine. Did not have to use the new part at all at this time. Am keeping new part for future use.

No water coming out.
Turns out replacing the part was not needed. Still did not work. Opened freezer and hit inside of door with hairdryer to thaw out frozen water line. Wish I would have done that first. Water works fine now.

Ice dispenser door sticks open and water dripping into ice bin.
Disassembled the ice dispenser which became difficult because of very rusted screw heads. After I got dispenser apart, I had to go to a local hardware store to try to find replacement screws. Apparently, appliance screws are specialty items and I had to purchase the screws that most closely matched. I also had to purchase a ice dispenser door solenoid locally since I already had the dispenser all apart and I wanted to complete this job. The solenoid was very rusted as well and not functioning properly. It also took awhile to clean the rust stains off of the dispenser parts. If screws could be purchased along with the new parts that would have been very helpful and stainless screws would end the rusting screw heads issue but not the rusting door solenoid. All good at the end of the day with the sticking dispenser door repaired. Later, I replaced the dual water valve assembly because water was dripping on the ice maker components causing the ice maker to quit working and water was dripping into the bin as well. Replaced valve and that went well but, I still have water dripping on to the ice maker components. I will give it a couple of days to see if it stops and if it does not I will contact PartSelect.com.

Ice dispenser noisey.
I ordered the entire unit an had it unboxed, cleaned up, and installed in 20 minutes and it works like a charm. I took the old unit and tore it down to see what the real issue was that caused the plastic cone to break. I found that the bushing that the auger rides in was elongated in the very front housing. I looked and could not find that particular piece to purchase, but that was the reason the plastic cone failed.

Evaporator fan motor was whistling
Ironically I did this today, as this email request came up asking how it went. I'm not a repairman, I'm a software engineer, and I can't thank this site enough for the step by step videos. With the video to help, this was a breeze, I was nervous as I had to empty all my freezer out onto the living room floor. Once that was done the repair took about 30 minutes. Thank you partselect!!!!! My second time doing business here, and I'll be coming back (well, if something breaks, so let's hope I don't have to).
