JCD2389GES Jenn-Air Refrigerator - Instructions

I followed the instructions that came with the kit.

After reading online the possible problems, I emptied out the freezer and removed the back panels. Low and behold,the coils were completely frosted over. The fan was running so I knew that wasn't the problem.I placed towels down in the bottom of the freezer and hung a hair dryer off one of the shelves to point at the coil. It thawed out completely in about 30 min. I put it back together and it only lasted 3 days. I ordered the parts that were the most common issue (adaptive defrost board & heater),watched the videos (I never would have found the adaptive board), parts showed up in 2 days, installed the new parts and so far, two weeks later,all is well. I'd like to say a cave man could do it but you need to be somewhat gentle getting to the adaptive defrost board or you'll have a lot of broken plastic.

Followed the video as a guideline. It was not exactly as portrayed. My husband and I, being long time do it yourselfer's, were able to get around the differences. There were screws, instead of tabs as pictured in the video, plus had to remove 4 screws instead of one to loosen the old icemaker. After 2 days the icemaker is pumping out loads of ice.

I followed the instructions from your video. I did this replacement all by myself. I am a 64 year old woman and have never done anything like this before. It could not have been any easier.

This part has a great installation video to watch that was provided by the PARTSELECT repair man. If you watch this video you can't go wrong. I didn't install my part for approx 2 months after purchasing because my fridge would run ok for a while until it required defrost. During my last defrost I ordered the board. After about 2 months it started acting up again so had the part in hand now so started the defrost process at same time I started the replacement of the Adaptive Defrost board. The only thing I did different from the video was I had to pull the left(as your facing frige) ceiling screw out vs only taking out part way and then use the slot in the plastic. I did this vs pulling the water filter off the back wall. To me that seemed way easier to completely remove that screw vs taking the mount off the water filter as the video suggest. I also removed all elec connections and took entire assembly out as I had to reinstall the damper door that I had removed years earlier. All the electrical connections are molex connectors and they are all keyed so you can't put them back on incorrectly. Was easier to reinstall the damper door with the assembly out. The other thing I noticed was my original adaptive control board didn't have screws in it but if I recall correctly I had a repair man replace that unit about 5yrs ago so guessing he never put the screws back in. Re-assembled everything and waited the 24hrs to fine tune the temp. Won't really know for probably 2 months whether this adaptive defrost board will have fixed my problem or not but I'm guessing that it will. I'm about 1 week into the repair and so far all is still ok. Good luck with your repair! Side note - I checked out my bad board and found that the C2 capacitor was bad. Its a 22uf 50v cap however it measured open. I put a new capacitor on for $1.50 so hoping I have a spare adaptive defrost board now. I'm guessing this is likely the fix too because my fridge was creating an oscillating sound. I'm guessing now that there was ac voltage on the K1 relay coil causing the relay to cycle on/off rapidly. Just a guess but I will definitely use this as a backup adaptive defrost board now.

Replaced icemaker and used wire harnnes and plastic cover off old one. Real easy!!

The ice maker change out was easy. The problem was the part came with a different filler cup but the one needed was supplied. Changing to the other cup required taking the ice maker apart and installing the other filler cup. Go to the parts list and find the filler cup. Use instructions found there to change to other cup and then install your ice maker.

We put all the new parts in that came with this kit including the Solenoid. It was super easy. I have a home warranty which covered the refrigerator ice maker, however, it would have cost me $75 just to bring out a repairman and then it would have taken up my time to be around when he wanted to come out. Buying this part and doing the job ourself cost me less money AND time.

I followed the online video exactly, except that the video only showed replacing the switch. Replacing the rubber "pusher" was easy & obvious once the switch was exposed.

Like others who have done a superb job explaining this repair, I googled my way into this site, found an EXACT match for the problem I was having, which was a warm freezer/fridge where I could hear something trying to start up every few seconds.....a click.....a hum......and a click as it gave up. This process repeated itself. I ordered both the PTC relay and overload kit, AND the run capacitor since it was recommended by others that I replace the pair. Locating the compressor and accessing the wiring harness was easy. Replacement was a bit confusing for this first time Fridge repairman because the replacement parts are not identical, however the replacement is a 5 minute job once you know what you are doing. Taking off the old relay was simple with a flat blade against the compressor wiggling it off. Discovered a CHARRED relay. Replace it alone, Fridge fired right up and didn't seem to turn off, so I unplugged it only to find the clicking noise had resumed and the compressor was not engaging....so this time I replaced the run capacitor. Now everything worked great. Putting that black plastic cover back on looks and sounds so simple, however I struggled with it and have yet to compete it, but I will. Evidently it just snaps into place when you get everything in order. One comment I will make is that the new replacement part wiring includes a very convenient jumper because one of the leads is too small to fit on the compressor. Confusing at first, however makes perfect sense if you just follow the directions. Problem solved for under $100, and that included RUSH OVERNIGHT shipping!!! This store and the related stories on how to do the repairs....ROCK!

Research, read reviews, liked what I readed,looked at your videos, bought and replaced the parts. Most of the reveiws I read said it was the DEFROST HEATER and THERMOSTAT ASSEMBLY, but I went the extra yard and also bought the ADAPTIVE DEFROST BOARD. THE R/R WAS EASY, AND THE RESULTS ARE GREAT.

Removed fan shroud in center of plastic finish cover in back of freezer by unsnapping. Removed back cover in freezer by removing 4 screws with nut driver. Removed power connection from fan motor and removed 2 screws holding fan motor in place with nut driver. Installed replacement motor following steps in reverse. Plugged in fridge and cooling began with fan running.

Very easy. I watched the video and installed the part in less then 10 minutes. I suggest that you look at the tabs in the rear of the first cover as this will make the hard part easy. Once you remove cover, remove light bulbs and you will see two screws. Remove them and one in the back near the filter shift the unit to the right and it will fall in your hands. Remove the defrost unit and install new part. Thats it..

Installed part directly to compressor and placed new protective housing. Monitored temperatures for 3 days and verified proper function. Very easy install, part is not a one for one swap and as mentioned by others taking a little perceptive understanding to install.

removed old icemaker and transfer some of the parts to the new icemaker. The only problem was that I had to disasemable the new icemaker to replace the fill tray with the older style (which was included). Once that was done, installation was pretty easy.
