Display screen was loose, plastic frame was broken
Open door and remove vent cover buy pulling gently. Next un plug the microwave. emove the screw at the top of the control panel. Slide the control panel straight up until the hooks on the sides slip out of the slots. Tip the panel toward you and unplug the three different plugs near the top of the panel. Now the panel will tip further out and it can be moved around to get the metal catch at the bottom to come out of the slot. This will let the panel tip down to a horizontal position making it easier to work on. Remove the one screw that holds the circuit board to the plastic rack. There are three tabs that hold it in place but all of mine were broken off. Next remove the three screws that hold the plastic rack and the screw that holds the grounding wire. Lift the circuit board up and slide the old plastic rask out. Don't forget to unplug the sensor light from the rack. Slide the new rack in place and snap the circuit board onto the new rack. Replace all screws, put the control panel back into the slot then put the hooks on the sides back into their slots, replace the screw at the top. Put the vent cover back on, plug it in and go have a beer.
Simply remove two screws with a crosstip screwdriver securing the vent louvers from top of microwave, remove the old charcoal filter and replace new filter as describe in the owners manual. Very easy installation and partselect parts are very inexpensive and durable to other sites.
Unpacked the vent grille and walked to the microwave. Lifted grille up to the vacant space. Applied a small amount of pressure while pushing the grille into place. Walked to the refrigerator to fetch part one of an Egg Nog beverage, then to the cupboard for the best part of the Egg Nog beverage. Stirred ingredients and continued with decorating the Christmas tree. Voila!
The close door warning kept coming on and the microwave would not run
Don't waste your time with other parts stores online. Partselect sells quality parts and they arrived 2 days early. I purchase a door switch from another online store and the switch was defective.
I went to a popular parts supply website and used thier repair information (video) to fix the handle. Without that information it would have taken a lot longer to figure out.
Thanksgiving night, I found a rather large crack in the grille and it wouldn't stay in place. I placed the order for the replacement grille on Friday and received the new grille Monday. It just snapped in place, no tools necessary. I had contacted the Sears parts replacement department and all I got was attitude from the parts "help" desk. I'm glad I placed the order with Parts Select, the cost was cheaper and shipping was faster. I won't hesitate to use Parts Select the next time I need a part for any of my Whirlpool appliances.
It really just snaps into place- nothing to it. The only small problem is, it's a different color than the original. The original was gray and the new one is black but it still looks fine.
Vent grille was either broken when installed or broke when it fell
The replacement part was easy to install and, despite the description that said it didn't come with the clips, the clips were attached. In fact, the box included a clip that was never installed when my microwave was originally installed. The additional clip probably would have prevented the grille from falling off in the first place.
