Dryer Start button wouldn't stay on
After watching a video from youtube: which happened to have the same issue and exact dryer, I realized it was the start button relay and not the switch. The video covers how to test if its the relay. I did mark all the wires with tape and labeled them so I made sure they were reconnected appropriately. I ordered the relay and it was installed in mere minutes. This is the first ever appliance repair I have ever done! It was a great feeling to know I was able to fix my dryer and it only required a screwdriver and a few minutes!
Actually this site also has a video on how to do this repair, which was awesome. Mine was slightly different because the top where the controls were didn't raise up like on the video.I unplugged the dryer. I had to take the nuts off the back metal sections to expose the parts. I popped the Push-To-Start button out, removed the fuse and put the new parts on. Put the metal sections back on and plugged it in. WA LA it worked!! I probably didn't need the push button part but figured I might as well use it since I bought it. I do believe it was the Thermal fuse that was bad. Saved me probably over $100.00 by doing it myself.
Removed the back of the dryer about 8 screws. Removed the Thermostat 250 F and replaced with new. Dries a load of clothes in one cycle on medium. Not bad for a 16 dollar part. I am a computer tech and I am used to taking computers a part but I think most people that are in anyway mechanically inclined and can look at a diagram could do this and save yourself a lot of money.
1st- installed the push to start switch-was not the problem 2nd installed the dryer thermal fuse and was not the problem 3rd installed the dryer door switch and the dryer started right lup
Dryer produced no heat. My lint trap was full of wet lint.
I saw some videos suggesting you remove the back panel. Then I saw a video where only the kick plate was removed and the element was removed that way. I removed both the back panel and kick plate. At first I thought I was wasting my time however once I got started I was glad I removed both back and front. There was a significant amount of lint in the bottom of the dryer which made it easier to remove. It also made it easier to remove the heater element. I hope this helps.
Per instruction video and past experience. Part replacement came quickly (2days from purchase) and the correct parts were sent. Dryer works better now than it did new.
Replaced the heating element. Took the front lower panel off, 2 screws one on each end, removed cover on left side over blower 3 screws and removed cover lower right side over heating element 2 screws. Removed 6 wires plugged into heating element cover, turned heater element cover counter clockwise and pulled out. Removed 1 screw holding heating element inside of cover, pulled out heating element. Replaced heating element back in cover putting screw back in to hold it. Put heating element and cover into hole in back of dryer turning clockwise to secure. Then put cover holding heating element over the front of it and secured with 2 screws. Put blower cover back secured with the 3 screws and put the front cover back on securing with 2 screws. dryer is heating better than ever.
The repair was really easy and I loved the DIY videos they were great, not many tools needed to do these repairs that was great. The only thing is this didn't solve my issue.
Disconnected Power cord, removed vent pipe, removed back panel, had to slide top cover off to remove additional screw holding back on. Went down to where the Idler Pulley was, removed old piece by depressing on the spring loaded actuator and slid it off the belt and all. Replaced same as removal.
I replaced both the thermal fuse and the thermistor at the same time. That seemed to fix the problem; but after a couple of days the dryer would not start. When pushing the Hold to Start button, the dryer just gave one beep and would not start. I did a resistance test on the old thermal fuse, and it was OK; so I put the old thermal fuse back in and the dryer works. Evidently, it was just the thermistor (thermostat, internal bias) that was broken. Both are very easy to change.
I removed the back panel and tested the Thermal Fuse, the Thermostat and the Heating Element with a meter. The Thermal Fuse gave a bad reading. I proceeded to clean the dryer and lint pipe of all lent. I installed the new Thermal Fuse and put the back panel back on the dryer. The dryer worked for two loads of clothes and the Thermal Fuse blow again. I'm now at the end of my rope. I don't know what else to check and I can't continue to buy parts for only two loads. I guess I will have to invest in a new dryer.
I did what any novice would have done. I took the entire thing apart to get to the gas jet. I did not know about the thermal fuse until I got to the schematic behind the timer and controls. I was a tech back in the 70's and 80's and only worked on electric dryers. Back then I would remove the heater core and twist the coils together to save money. So I had no idea how a gas dryer heating unit worked. So now any one that reads this. You do not have to take the dryer completely apart, I did that for all of you. Just replace the thermal fuse on the back of the unit by unplugging that wires and removing the screws! It looks like a long white piece of plastic with 2 wires to it. You will find this under the full metal shield on the back of the unit. This should be about a 1 hour repair at the most!
Opened access door, noticed main power wire to heating element was partially melted. This was caused by a bad connection to the drying element, loose. Removed heating element assembly. Cut bad section of wire and added new connection. While doing this the thermostats plastic casing cap came off ! Probably due to exessive heat / resistance from the bad connection. This confirmed why there was no heat. Intalled new thermostat and and am now good to go !
I simply removed the rear panal of the dryer. Removed the two wires from the fuse at the rear of the dryer. Attached an OEM meter across the two fuse connections and had no continuity. Ordered a new fuse and recieved it in 2.5 days.Replaced the fuse, reconnected the wires and replaced the rear panal. Started dryer and it now blows hot air and runs like new. I can't say enough about PartSelect. Great diagnosis using their website, the delivery was fast and I recieved the correct part at a good price. Very satisfied, Thanks PartSelect. Fred F
