I got this part thinking it was the problem but come to find out the part I need is sold only as a package along with the part I bought by itself. I feel I was totally ripped off! The part I bought was over 40.00 and the kit is just over 50.00. Now in order to fix my dryer I have to buy the kit, the most expensive part I already bought and was told I cant exchange and pay the difference for the kit. I feel I was misled and should have at least been shown the kit before I bought this part. Not being an appliance expert I would've paid the extra 10 and got the kit to begin with. Now I would rather spend hundreds of dollars on a new dryer then give you people another penny!!

Removed and replaced the recommended parts purchased from the site.
Extremely easy! I used this website's part diagrams and videos to find out where the parts were in the dryer. I only needed a 1/4" socket on a screwdriver handle to remove the back of the dryer and the same socket for the screws holding most of the parts on (one needed a phillips screwdriver). ... Read moreeating element, cycling thermostat, thermal fuse and 250f Thermostat, knowing I could return the one(s) I didnt need. Replaced them all and guess what...it still didnt work! So I read some other people's comments and found out there was one more part I hadnt ordered that might be the problem...the THERMAL CUT OFF KIT. It has the 250F thermostat PLUS another (different) Thermal cut off fuse, that attaches several inches above the heating element. I ordered that part, got it the next day, and the Thermal cut off fuse that was in the kit (not available separately) ended up being the solution to my problem! The wire to it was actually fried, so the extra connectors in the kit were perfect, and I just cut and stripped the wire a little and put on the new connector, and the dryer works great.

i took the back of the dryer, and took the part out to repair, sent for it at parts.com. it came in three days. i put the new part in and i have a good dryer again. very simple. the internet was helpful. i am 68 year old lady.

High temperature cut off thermostat from a Kenmore dryer. I measure 30 ohms across the terminals. Has it failed? The dryer doesn't seem to heat at all.

Hello John, thank you for your question. At room temperature, testing the thermostat should produce a reading of zero. If the reading is something else the thermostat is bad and would need to be replaced. If the appliance is running, but not heating at all (blowing cold air), it is most likely a thermostat issue, or fuse issue. I replaced the heating element, the thermal fuse and the high temperature thermostat and still have no heat. Does it matter which prong the red and white stripped go on the heating element and thermostat? Right now the striped one is on the bottom prong on the thermostat and on the prong closest to the drum on the element. Is that right?

Hello Robert, Thank you for your inquiry. The red and white wire goes on the bottom and the solid red one should be on the top. The other parts to check would be the thermal cut off kit, the internal bias thermostat/cycling thermostat, the terminal and wire kit, the electrode/sensor, and the blower wheel. Also make sure the ducts are clear and your dryer has plenty of space in back to suck in air. Hope this helps!

My Whirlpool electric dryer seems to be overheating. I have replaced the thermal switch 3977394. it was open instead of n/c.
the other sensors measure a short or show continuity. i believe this is correct.
the dryer still seems to be getting too hot.
I have a laser thermometer. are there some readings i could measure?
how hot should a electric dryer get internally and the exhaust?

Hi Bob, The single most common reason why clothes dryer overheat is restricted airflow. When there's a blockage in the internal duct work, the hot air will become trapped inside the drum where it creates potential fire hazard. I am not sure of what is too hot, but on average a dryer should get 140-155°F on high , so too much higher would be an issue.
