Dishwasher starts on its on. It can be in the off position, in about 5 mins the selector switch starts turning on it on and dishwasher starts up. Will a bad latch assembly have anything to with it.

Hello Oscar, Thank you for your inquiry. It could be the door switch, the wiring or the timer. You can test the door switch and timer with a multimeter. If you are unfamiliar with how a multimeter functions, we have videos available to assist you. Check the wiring for any loose connections or damage. Good luck with your repair.

No one could open the door, but me.
I took out the four screws that hold the front plate on and removed the latch/switch combo. Two screws hold that on, so i removed them and disconnected tthe wires. Put new assembly in place, reconnected the wires and put it all back together. Case, and door, closed. By the way, getting my part from PartSelect was very easy.

Door Latch Broken
Our dishwasher handle was broken and I stumbled upon PartSelect's YouTube video that described how to change the Latch Assembly while looking for a new dishwasher. It looked easy so I thought that I would give it a try. The hardest part of the installation was finding which circuit breaker shut off the dishwasher. That being said, our dishwasher was slightly different from the model shown in the video. When we unscrewed the screws on the inside of the door the top part of our dishwasher did not come off and fall forward as it did in the video. Our control panel was longer and continued beneath the front panel. We could not access the latch assembly until we removed two small screws near the bottom of the dishwasher door and popped the front panel off. Other than that it was exactly as the video showed. EXCELLENT service. I ordered the part and received it the next day. WOW. I would recommend this website to anyone who needs appliance parts.

a part of the latch broke off causing the latch to not secure the door
on a U-TUBE repair sequence it showed removing the entire front panel of the door. With this Kenmore model the front panel is in two parts. The upper part where the controls and latch are is independent of the front panel so all I needed was to unscrew the upper panel, unscrew the latch, pull off the wires and reinstall by plugging in the wires, screwing the new latch to the door, reinstalling the panel to the door. It took about 15-20 minutes for the entire operation.

door latch broken
Repair was easy, except had to run to Home Depot to buy a special screw driver to take the handle off. Once this was purchased the repair was fast and simple.

So easy, even I could do it.
The door latch on our dishwasher must have been going out even before we bought the house. It was always hard to open and kept getting harder to open until a piece of plastic broke off in my hand. There were only 2 screws to remove to get the latch off . . . along with 4 electrical plug ins. The new piece went on easily. The dishwasher is even quieter now. I think it's because the latch wasn't pulling the door closely as tight as it should be. Now all is well. Instead of paying the repair guy a quoted $175 for the service call, repair, replace and part . . . I paid only $38. That says it all.
