Microwave quit working
Removed top bar and control panel. Checked fuse with multimeter-it was fine. Checked bottom two door latches with multimeter-fine. Went to check top latch and discovered that the spring loaded “button” which is depressed by the door extension had lost its springiness. Ordered new one. Replaced it. Works perfectly.

No heat
Also installed capacitor diode cable from first parts order. Used Phillips screwdriver to remove parts and reinstall. The original latch board becomes unusable when removing parts requiring the purchase of a new board. New parts did not solve the problem so it was a waste of time and money.

Microwave was not heating and not turning.
I unplugged the appliance first. It was an over the range microwave so I only opened the front part where the buttons are, and behind it there’s a set of 3 door switches, carefully took out the burned down one and replaced it.

Turntable did not rotate and food did not heat up
Suspected door switch after researching on You tube. (There are three of them). Ordered top switch and removed top vent panel and control panel to gain access. Saw that there were burn marks on the switch where the wire connected to it. Be careful when removing the old switch and installing new as it snaps in and it takes some finesse so you don't break off the retention tabs.....This is the second time I fixed this oven...The first time the door latch spring hook broke so I drilled a small hole to attach the spring into.

Buzzing noise
Spouse looked on line to see what would cause the buzzing noise on the microwave. Then he ordered the parts to the door. It was the door switches. Spouse. Took off the board to get to the switches. Apparently slamming the door on the. Microwave for so many years can cause malfunctions.

How do I put a door switch in a microwave?
For model number JVM1540DM4CC
PartSelect logo
Hello Myrna, Thanks for your question. This part should only be installed by a licensed technician, as the microwave can contain electrical charges even when the unit is unplugged. One would need to unscrew the front panel to access the door switches after discharging the capacitor. I hope this helps.
