This water filter bypass cap, also known as a water filter bypass plug, is an authentic OEM part that replaces the regular water filter cartridge in refrigerators. It allows water to flow freely through the dispensing system when the filter is not present. The bypass can fail if it becomes clogged, cracked, or falls out of alignment. A faulty filter bypass will result in leaking, poor ice production, and difficulties dispensing water. You can find the filter bypass inside the refrigerator, near the water filter housing. Disconnect the water supply lines and remove the faulty bypass. Insert the new bypass in its place and reconnect the water supply lines.

Haven't tried it yet.
I expect there will be no problem; looks like it fits. Will try as soon as my current filter becomes clogged or "Replace filter in 6 months" occurs. Don't send me more of these surveys. Thank you for prompt service.

Increased water flow.
We installed a water filtration system with reverse osmosis and no longer needed the refrigerator filter. This bypass increased the water flow from the refrigerator chiller.

Hello Greg, thank you for your question. It sounds like the water filter head is not allowing water to come into the unit and be directed to the icemaker/dispenser area. We would recommend replacing Water Filter Head Part Number: WP67004106. I hope this helps.

We just replaced the dual water valve for our refrigerator. There is very little water being dispense. The water filter is making a loud noise when dispensing water and when water fills the ice maker. What is causing that loud noise?

Replaced water filter with blue bypass plug (as we now have home filtration) but no water will come out of the dispenser. It works fine with the filter in, but not with the filter out or the bypass plug fully inserted. How do we get it to dispense water without the filter? Thanks!

I installed the bypass 2 weeks ago. Ice maker was making ice okay. The ice maker is not making ice now. What could be the problem?
For model number wrx735sdbm02
Hello Wardell, thank you for writing. Please recheck that the bypass PS12731165 was installed correctly by viewing this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RbJ_jJ3rd4. A cause my be clogged or frozen water lines. And lastly, test the Water Inlet Valve PartSelect Number PS11775241. We hope this helps.
I have just bought a 2nd hand f/f hooked up the water and cannot get flow. The water filter is missing, could this stop the water flow?
For model number GC2225GEKS
Hi Graeme, thank you for your question. It should not. If your filter is missing you need to have the cap there or else water would leak from the missing filter location. If you are getting no water at all, you may want to look at your water inlet valve being the issue. The valve can be tested with a multi meter and should be reading between 500 - 1500 ohms of resistance. You may want to make sure you either have a new filter in place or a cap before turning on the water. Good luck with your repair.
