Dryer timer very hard to turn resulting in a stripped knob
My GE electric dryer timer became very difficult to turn and eventually stripped the knob. First I unplugged the dryer. Then removed the upper back panel exposing the timer. There is only one small allen screw plus built in slots holding the timer. There are many wires connected to the timer so I took a picture just in case. I removed the timer and let it hang by the wires. I then pulled one wire at a time and reattached it to the new timer. All went well and the dryer works like it was new again. The most difficult thing was replacing the small screw holding the timer. I then replaced the back panel and attached the new knob. There’s no need for a professional repair person for this problem. From start to finish was less than 30 minutes.

unable to set timer, knob stripped
Timer was extremely difficult to turn, causing the knob to strip. Unplugged power to dryer.
Pulled knob off, pulled dryer out to get at the back side, removed the small bolts that hold the back on, pulled back off and let it hang by the ground wire, looked at switch away and saw it was attached by a nut and a torque screw, and two hooks, removed screw and nut, looked at new switch,I put a little oil on the shaft to free it up,and aligned it the same as the old one, took the old one off by sliding it up to clear the hooks and let it hang by the wires, installed new switch with nut and torque screw and hooks. Then looked at the wires on the old switch and transferred each wire one at a time to the same terminal on the new switch. Screw the back on to the dryer, plug power in, move dryer back in place put knob on.

Timer dial failed completely
Two surprises: (a) after removing two screws, instrument console required a hard whack to slide it back so it would come off; and (b) the timer was held in place by a torx (T-15) screw. The photo I took of the wiring was essential for installing the new timer.

Knob broke so we were using vise grips to turn with. The stem broke off so we had to replace the timer.
Took pics of the wiring after taking off back top plate. Found PartSelect on line. Put in part and ordered, quick, easy and simple. They did everything as stated. Put all wires back on and closed up. Tickled pink with PartSelect and will definitely use them again.

I just bought this dryer used and the dial won't move from where i set it on the cycle, i.E. More dry, less dry, etc. So it runs indefinitely even after the clothes are very dry. It gets hot and dries the clothes without a problem. I think one time out of about 8 it did seem to work on delicate cycle only. Would this most likely be a faulty timer, thermostat, or sensor? Thank you!

Hi Kerry, Thank you for the question. This does sound like an issue with the timer switch,Part Number: PS11759041. The switch is not repairable so it will need to be replaced. Hope this helps!

Hi Kathy, thank you for your question. Looking at your model information there are a few parts that you should take out and test to see which one is giving you the issue. The first parts to check in this case would be all of your thermostats and thermal fuses. You can test those parts with a multi meter and they should be reading 0 ohms to be working correctly. If those parts are fine, you should then go on to testing your heating element as well. You can also test that with a multi meter and it should be reading between 0 - 50 ohms. Something else you should also check would be your filter and ducts. Make sure there is absolutely no blockage that would restrict air flow in your appliance. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.
