What causes the burner to go from low setting to high? The selector switch?
For model number GFE471LVS0
Hi Bill,
Thank you for your question. If the burner is going from a low to a high setting, the issue is likely the switch, but you should also check the burner to make sure that it is working correctly. You will need to test the parts with a multimeter. To test for a shorted element, touch each of the terminals one at a time with one probe while holding the other probe to the outside surface of the element. If either terminal show continuity, it is defective. To test the entire element for continuity, place each of the probes on the terminals, one on each. The exact reading you should receive varies between models, refer to your owner’s manual to determine what yours should be, but if any element has a reading outside of 19 to 115 ohms, it is defective. For the switch, If you do not receive the correct readings from the tests above or find damage on your element, you will need a replacement surface burner element. Using a multimeter on the Rx1 setting, touch the probes to the terminals. If your receptacle has multiple sets of terminals, test each set individually. If there is continuity, your multimeter will produce a reading of zero. If you receive any reading other than zero, you will need to replace it. Here is a link to one of our videos on YouTube that you may use as a general reference on how to use a multimeter, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWC44fHn0As. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

The burner front right. ( so when using only the bottom part of the dial switch) makes the “medium size” ( small +medium burner) turn on high 100% of the time… when using small burner no problem ( it can go from low to high) and when using the big burner ( small+medium+large burner) it works good as well… would this switch help? How can I troubleshoot that?
For model number Ymer8875ws1
Hi Marc, thank you for reaching out. Based on our research, the issue is probably with the infinite switch, part number PS11749448. Before replacing the switch, we suggest checking the triple radiant element, part number PS11749284, for continuity. If you get no continuity, then the switch is the issue. We hope this sorts out your problem!
