This pump helps expel water from the washing machine and is activated after the spin speed is maintained for a specific period of time. If your machine is not draining properly or if it is noisy and shakes during operation, you may need to replace the drain pump. This is a redesigned part. The pump now mounts on to the base of the washer. This product is made of white plastic and has a metal center. My washer is grinding noisy when agitating. I removed the belt and turn each of the three pulleys i found underneath. The only one where i felt resistance was the pump pulley. Do you think i am on the right track if i replace the pump? Thank you.

My brother was using the machine to wash a pair of pants and a short while after that it was smelling like burning, and he disconnected it after I arrived home. I connected it again and tried to drain all the water left behind and it was making a noise like a grinder. I have not checked under yet, so do you think I need just the belt, or the pump too?

Thanks for your question. The drive belt is the most common reason why this burning smell would occur, but the drain pump would explain the noise better. You may wish to get both parts and see if the belt fixes your issue, and then try the pump if it does not fix your issue.

Biggest problem is that the clothes will not spin out very dry. Usually a heavy load will spin out better. On a light load the clothes are very wet. I replaced the belt, pulley and shims. Tried the water pump no change. Does on occasion make some noise, wife says, i haven't heard it.

Machine was running rough and loud on spin cycle. I replaced the transmission pulley and bearing. The unit runs good while washing, but still loud on the spin cycle. There are no leaks, or any excessive vibration. I am wondering what part i may need. I see noise most probable cause is the water pump, but do not want to just keep replacing parts without knowing if it is actually in poor condition. Looking for some help and guidance here. Washing machine shakes during spin cycle after tub water drains and spinning of clothing continues. I replaced the suspension springs (all 6) along with the snubber ring. I also re-leveled the washing machine. That is the three most common fixes for a shaking machine. However, machine still shakes once water empties during the spin cycle. I checked the balance of the load and it is fine. It shakes even with a small load. During the repair, i did notice a strange situation. If the front panel is left off the machine and you put in thru a spin cycle, the machine does not shake, but the tub can be observed shaking/vibrating. When i place the front panel back on the machine, the entire machine shakes/vibrates severely. What else could be causing this since i already did the three top repairs of replacing the 6 suspension springs, the snubber ring, and re-leveling. I'm very confused as to what could be causing this issue.

The washing machine did not drain before the spin cycle. The spin cycle started and threw water everywhere. No idea what part this may be.

If the drain hose is clogged or bent, water won't be able to flow out, which will leave all the liquid in the tub. My washer is spinning, but clothes are very wet at the end of the cycle. Too wet to put in the dryer. It is also making what I would call a squealing/high pitched mouse sound during spin cycle. Would this be the fix for that issue?

It includes the pulley that rotates to spin the basket and the thrust bearing that fits between the pulley and the transmission shaft. Pump was making a grinding noise
The pump is located behind a small panel on the back, lower left side of my washer. It's attached to the bottom frame with 3 screws. It has two hoses attached, each with one spring clamp. Lift one side of the washer and slip the drive belt off the pully. Release the spring clamps on the hoses with a pair of pliers and remove the hoses. A small amount of water will drain from the hoses and pump when removed. Remove the three screws holding the pump to the frame and remove the pump. Install the new pump in the same position. Reattach the hoses, replace the belt, and reinstall the cover panel. That's all there is to it.
back panel,belt two hoses,three screws, $100 dollars for the part!! pump is a molded part with a bearing insertion, is made in USA ! I'm guessing around 7 to 10 dollar manufacturing cost. I'm thinking that kind of mark-up is only exceded by the pharmacutical industry. I'm looking to buy a used machine for parts!!

Skreeching noise during spin cycle
Pulled out washer, laid on front, removed access panel and the pump was right there. Three screws with 5/16" nut driver, pliers to release hose clamps, remove hoses, remove belt from pully, remove old pump. Install new pump with three screws, two hoses and clamps, finally put belt on new pulley and other small pulley and used screw driver shaft to pull belt on to large pulley. replace access panel, put washer back in place. It literally took me more time to clean the floor under where the washer was than to change the part. Piece-o'-cake.

The bearing had some kind of metal (couragated) piece that worked it's way loose and was hanging up on the pump housing or retaing plate.
Removed the old pump,- disconetced the two hoses, and 3 retaining screws, sliped off the drive belt,. installed the new pump! simple!

bad water pump
shut off supply lines, remove cover on back of washer, remove drain hose from pump,inlet and exit. remove belt underneath washer from pump. remove 3 assembly screws. remove pump. set new pump in place. rescrew pump to washer. reatach inlet and exit hoses to pump put belt back on under washer put cover back on back of washer. turn supply flines back on. should work like new

Unit starting making terrible noise and shut down.
After examining the diagrams online, I removed the 3 screws holding on the back panel. Nothing seemed wrong so I tilted the machine to look underneath at the belt. All seemed OK but manually moving the belt by hand revealed that where the belt drives the pump had worn loose and was the source of the problem. Reading other descriptions of the ease of replacement of the pump, I ordered the new pump. It took approximately 15 minutes to remove the old pump and 10 minute to install the new pump and replace the belt. The machine is back to working fine. This is a fairly simple repair.

Bearings on the water pump self-destructed.
I tipped the washing machine back to allow me access to the bottom of the washing machine to remove the belt from the water pump. After removing the belt, I righted the machine, unscrewed the three screws holding the rear access panel on. I used pliers to remove the clamps from the inlet and outlet hoses then removed the hoses. I removed three screws holding the water pump on to the bottom panel of the washing machine. I removed the pump and replaced it with the new pump. I then reinstalled the screws, the hoses, the clamps, the access panel, and the belt. I plugged the washer back in and - viola! It works again.

Water intermittently leaking from bottom of washer
I could not tell where the leak was coming from. It was intermittent. Also the clothes were not getting totally dry in the spin cycle. Finally the drum stopped turning. The bearing in the waterpump was shot and the water was leaking from the waterpump. Luckily or unluckily, the bearing completely went and I then found out that the intermittent leaking was coming from the pump. I replaced the pump and the belt that was damaged when the pump bearing locked up. This has resolved the leaking issue.
Noise loudest during spin cycle. Wash cycle showed transmission was ok. Pump shaft loose in housing. Fix was just as described. Tip washer up, lift belt from pulley on pump. Remove rear panel access. Remove hoses. Un-bolt pump. New pump does not have metal base plate, it fits directly to base of washer. Bolt new pump to base in same orientation, attach hoses, tip washer up and slide belt back on to pulleys. Move belt by hand to check function. Reconnect washer to utilities and begin fill. Check for leaks at hoses. Replace rear panel cover.

loud hi pitched squeeling noise all the time.
Remove front panel and back service panel below water conn. lines. Put a 4" plastic box between the tub and inside of cabinet "directly opposite the spring to be removed to lower the tub to base for less opposing travel to unlatch spring from tub hook. Also took an old slotted screw driver w/ a blade about 1/4 " and grinded 1/8 from middle about an1/8" deep and used it to latch the spring when pushing it up and off the tub. Replaced all 6. Also did motor pivot spring. Tested and the it worked for one cycle, then the tub again just falls to the right as if the spring at 9 o'clock was broke and strains the belt drive but the spin cycle still works o.k. and the washer does not bang and walk away till you stop the machine. Thought the 6 tub springs would take care of both problems. Told that the snubber ring needs to be replaced. Never but another maytag again. JUst did the belt,a week later the water pump went then the springs.....
