The ice tray melts and refreezes. Can you help?
For model number GNS23GMHBFES

Hello Don, Thanks for your question. There are a few different reasons this may occur. You may want to test the water inlet valve and defrost thermostat with a multimeter for electrical continuity - replace either if they do not show continuity. You may also want to examine the ice maker to see if there are any signs of wear and tear, and replace it if it is damaged. I hope this helps.

The freezer temp will go up and then come back down two to three times a day

Hi Bobby, Thank you for the question. I suggest testing the defrost thermostat first. The best way to do this is to remove the thermostat from the refrigerator so you can control the temperature of the sensor. You can let the sensor warm up to room temperature. With the sensor warmed up to room temperature the sensor should read approximately 6.2K Ohms at 68°F. With the thermistor submerged is a glass full of ice water, the sensor should be very close to 32°F which should read approximately 16.3K Ohms. If the values that you are getting are far off from these readings, then the sensor is bad and should be replaced. If the thermostat is is good you may need to replace the Temperature control board, PartSelect Number: PS7320380. Hope this helps!

Hello, on my 2 year old GE refrigerator, the freezer section evaporator freezes up completely in under 2 weeks & appears to not be going into the defrost mode. I have watched all your videos & tested everything & when I put the defrost thermostat in ice water it is closed & has no resistance, 0.3 ohms, and then testing it at room temperature it is still closed with no resistance & 0.3 ohms. It appears that my defrost thermostat is bad. Do you agree that I have a bad defrost thermostat that would be the cause of my freezer freezing up completely and not going into the defrost mode? Thank you, Jody

Our refrigerator is quite cold and sometimes food freezes even though we have the temperature set correctly (37 deg F). Also the water wasn't flowing out of the dispensor. I turned the fridge off over night and in the morning the water was running. I have replaced the thermistors a couple of months ago but now I'm wondering if this is a problem with the thermostat

Hi Ed, Thank you for your question. If water was flowing from the refrigerator when it was off, the water inlet valve may be malfunctioning. You will need to test it for continuity with a multimeter to see if it is working. We have included a link on how to test the water inlet valve. The part number listed under your model number for the water inlet valve is PS16226572. If you need to place an order for it, please call our customer service line and anyone will be happy to assist you. We look forward to hearing from you!

Freezer condenser coils keep frosting over until it's packed and then gets to a point that it's so frosted stuff in the freezer starts to almost stay just above freezing. The defrost bulb doesn't seem to kick on almost like the Freezer doesn't seem to know its so cold and frozen until its too late. Seems like it's over producing cold at times and keeps pushing out more. The defrost bulb Is good. I'm at the point where I'm thinking it's something with a temp/defrost control sensor.

The freezer is cold with some build up a frost. My refrigerator is warm. I thought the problem was a defrost timer, but I cannot find this part anywhere. Do you think that the Defrost thermostat may be bad? I had the same problem last week and defrosted everything. It worked for a while, and now it’s quit again.

Hi Kathrine, thank you for the question. Yes, the issue could be with the defrost thermostat, part number PS1155318. It protects the evaporator from overheating during the defrost cycle. We would suggest replacing it to fix the issue. We hope this solves your problem!

I am having a problem with my refrigerator. It works normally for a few days, then i notice the temperature in both the refrigerator and freezer rising. When that happens i noticed a light frost on the back panel of the freezer where the defrost heater is located. That lasts for a day or two, then the temperature goes back down to normal and that will last for a day or two, then it all starts over again. I have replaced the defrost heater and that seems to be working because it does defrost, but just doesn't seems to be doing it often enough. Will changing the defrost thermostat fix the problem? Does this unit have a defrost timer? Thanks for your help.

Hello Michael, thank you for your question. We would recommend checking the Part Number: WR55X10025 Temperature Sensors in both the fridge and freezer. If the sensors are functioning correctly, the next step would be to test the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. If the heater and defrost thermostat are tested and functioning correctly, the issue would then most likely be the electronic board. I hope this helps!
