JB550G*J4 General Electric Range - Instructions

I turned off the circuit breaker!!! Then I removed the two screws in the back of the oven that hold on the bake element. I pulled out the bake element and measured the resistance across the two wires. The resistance was too large to give a reading, indicating that the bake element was open (broken). I put it back together and ordered a new bake element. When the new one arrived, I made sure the circuit breaker was turned off!!! Then I removed the two mounting screws again and then removed the screws that held the wires to the bake element. I found the wires wer springy and disappeared into the mounting hole and into the fiberglass insulation behind. I fished them out and connected them to the new bake element. The two wires have different colors, but the position isn't important. It is important to tighten the screws well with a screwdriver, being careful not to bend the leads on the bake element. Then I alligned the new bake element with the mounting holes and replaced the two mounting screws. I turned on the circuit breaker and ran the oven for a few minutes to burn off the smell of the newly manufactured bake element. Job done.

Removed 2 sheet metal screws. Threw away old part. Replaced with new part secured with the same old sheet metal screws. Works perfectly. Actually it took longer to type this response. I was very pleased with Part Select. If I need another part you'll be hearing from me.

I read parts select instructions and i was done in less than 30 minutes. Since 1988, this is the 1st. part that I had to replace. I now have parts select on my favorites list.

Followed the instructions included with the part. Shut power off to oven. Removed 2 screws holding a plate in front of element, removed 2 screws connecting wires to the element. Replaced the element, connected wires and plate. Job Complete. It took longer to clean the oven, with the element removed it was a good time to clean. I'm sure this saved me $100.00 Thank You!

I followed the instructions that I printed from your site, 1st I turned off the breaker to the oven, pulled out the backing racks, I removed 2 screws from the plate holding the element in back of oven, pulled out element which was secured by 2 wires, removed those 2 screws, took out burned out element, put in new element by securing the 2 screws back to the 2 wires, pushed this back up into the oven, secured the plate with the 2 screws that was removed in the beginning, turned the breaker back on, turned the oven on to be sure that it worked, replaced the backing racks. Job well done, quick and simple! Oh! I got chewed out by my son, for not waiting on him to do this.
