Freezer frost build up on back wall, Freezer does freeze and fridge loses cool
After I googled the problem, I came across parts select. The video instruction by Steve is great and it gave me the confidence to try to DIY. I ordered the parts (Defrost thermostat and heater) and they came in 2 days. I melted the frost buildup with hair dryer, then take the back panel off, exposing the coils completely frozen up. After melting the ice off the thermostat, I found that the thermostat top has seperated from the bottom base and needs replacement. I removed the thermostat, cut the 2 wires, then connected the new parts to the two wires (color coded) with wire nuts I bought from Homedepot (with silicon). The space was tight in the freezer and it was difficult to work around. I replaced the heater just because I could get to it very easily. Overall, it was a job with mid level difficult because you have to be an electric-proficient person.

Both, refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling. Fan was working, but the compressor didn’t turn on.
First of all, you must watch the video on the partselect.com site. The video helps a lot. Then, you can start disconnecting the power cable; unscrew the cover of the main control board. Disconnected the connections from the old board. Unplug the board with a help of a small plier. Installed the new board, connect all connections back. Put the cover back. Connect back the power cable. Unit is running as a brand new.

Ice forms on freezer back panel, fridge gets warm
This is the 5th defrost heater element I've had to install into this unit. I've had nothing but problems with this fridge. 1st defrost unit failed after 2 years, no warranty, and the repair guy quoted me at $600.00. Thats when I took it upon myself to fix it on my own. The repair is easy, disconnect the power, remove the service panel in the freezer, use a hair dryer to defrost the ice from the coils, remove the old heater, install the new one. 2 screws 2 clip on wires. Very easy repair. The video on Part select website is great....WATCH IT before doing this repair!

Ice maker not making ice and leaking
I took off the front cover of the icemaker assembly and found that the gears were not meshing properly and therefore slipping. I removed the front panel and found that the white plastic cam unit under the large gear wheel had disengaged from the hole in the front plate which is why the gears were slipping. I refitted the cam and wheel and it worked fine but stopped again for the same reason the next day. As the plate appeared to be buckled somehow (not user repairable) and, as the unit was leaking and pooling water (which froze) in the collection unit, I decided to change the whole icemaker.

Ordered about 1300 on a Thursday, it arrived the next day at noon and was fitted straight away. As others have mentioned, the extension cable required to fit into my old fridge made it quite cumbersome however with a bit of juggling and persuasion, I got it to fit into the cut out corner of the ice container so it is completely out of the way. Job done in about 35 minutes, making ice in an hour.

Freezer not cold enough and Fridge not Cold enough:
When we first noticed the problem the food in the freezer was not completely frozen and then we looked at the temperature reading, approx. 47 in the fridge and the 30’s in the freezer and realized we had a problem. Something wasn’t working right so right away we figured we would try to fix it our self and went to part select as we had done before when our dishwasher broke.
The first part we ordered was a Mother Board thinking that would solve the problem. It seemed like a good choice. We should have spent more time researching the info available on Part select website. After unplugging the fridge, moving the food, installing the new part when it came it cooled for a few days and then the problem came back. After unplugging the unit again, removing all the food while we waited When we first really noticed the trouble with our refrigerator GE PSS23MG……….the food in the freezer for the part we replaced a temp sensor and it cooled for a few days but did not work either. The ice came back and the temps went back up to about 47 in the fridge and the 30’s in the freezer. My husband figured out that if you see ice on the back wall of the freezer most likely the evaporator is freezing up and the air from the fan can’t get through. If you can’t get air through the evaporator then you don’t get cold air to cool the freezer or the fridge. We remembered that the ice maker had been giving us some trouble recently so that was probably a warning sign that we had a problem, too.
After reading the Part Select web site again we ordered the Defrost Heater Harness which goes in the bottom of the inside of the freezer. You have to unplug the fridge, completely thaw the freezer out and make sure there isn’t any ice left on the coils before you install the part. My husband is clever and did not have any trouble with the install and most handy husbands can do it I’m sure. When the old part came out you could see it was dark, old and burnt out and obviously wasn’t working. This time we got it right and wish we had started with that part to begin with. Try it first!

Ice Maker flapper
Your Video really made it easy, showing the actual replacment of the part. However I did have one problem, which was I could not unplug the panel just by pulling on the plugs. A locking catch is on each plug so I just moved the panel out of the way.

no water from water dispenser
Water line to outlet water dispenser was frozen half way up the inside of freezer door. I scotch taped a bunch of plastic grocery bags on the interior left water dispenser door.I closed door with bags attached to inside door. I waited fifteen minutes and water was flowing again! First take off plastic coupler at bottom of front of refrigerator. Push plasic cup dispenser back, if water comes out of plastic tube at bottom front of refrigerator, then water valves are ok (if making ice is ok too). if light comes on at dispenser switch is ok also.
