DBSR453EB3WW General Electric Dryer - Instructions

Imagine that!! Move 3000 miles from home to home and after 90 days in storage, we finally get our things. First the washer, then the dryer. Test, no water, okay...Open valves. It's like magic. Hmmm. Plug the dryer in. No sound, not a peep. Turn the start switch one more time, crack-crack, the knob falls in my hand. Ordered the part and got in 2 days. A few star bolts to remove, unplug 3 wires and presto, it works like magic. Thanks!!!

We removed the top of the the dryer and then removed the front part. Then put the traps in place, put the other parts of the dryer back on, and turned the dryer back on. Just as simple as that. No extra fees.

I read over other people's repair stories and it seemed like something I could do myself, so I gave it a shot.
First I unplugged the dryer and wrestled it onto my back porch, because I don't have room to work in my laundry room.
1. I removed the door by unscrewing the 4 hinge screws.
2. I removed the 2 screws at the top of the recess the door fits into.
3. I removed the top of the dryer.
4. There were 2 inner screws holding the front in place (which is why the top had to come off, because there is no other way to get at those screws...and they are near the top of the dryer at each front corner)...I removed these to take the front off. I had to use a flat-tip screwdriver to pry it out at the bottom, but it wasn't very hard to do. I also disconnected the wires, which was easy, but just be sure to note how they hook together so that you get them hooked back together correctly.
5. I removed the old felt, noting how it was positioned so I could install the new felt correctly.
6. I removed the old drum bearing. It was cracking on the top of it, and all 4 slides were totally gone, so I'm glad I ordered all 4 of them!
7. I cleaned everything up and found .37 cents in change!
8. I installed the new drum bearing...it just clips into place.
9. I installed the 4 slides. I had watched a video here on how to do that, and it really is super-easy. There was just a bit of one green/gray slide left, so that told me which went where.
10. I installed the new felt.
11. I reconnected the wires and put the front on.
12. I put the top on.
13. I put the door back on.
14. I wrestled the dryer back inside and plugged it in.
15. I turned it on to test it...it worked, and NO MORE SQUEAK!!

My dryer has been working great ever since. I would like to note that I bought this dryer used, so I really am not sure of how old it is...so I guessed. It seemed to be in good condition, and the person I bought it from plugged it in and let me see that it worked...and it didn't squeak then. It started squeaking about halfway through the first load of clothes I did. Still, I got it at a good price and luckily it didn't cost too awful much to get the parts needed to silence that squeak.

I am really thankful that there is a site like this to help people who might not be able to afford a repair other than to do it themselves. I know some just don't like to pay the high cost of repair, but some (like me) simply don't have the money for that. So thank you VERY MUCH for all of your help...it is greatly appreciated!!

Took front of dryer pantel off and replaced parts ordered.dryer sounds very quiet like new dryer.

Actualy finding the square bit driver was the hardest part of the ordeal.. After that simply removed back panel (3 Screws) removed the existing switch, removed the three wires that went to switch, reinstalled them on new switch, reinstalled new switch into housing and replaced bac panel. Couldnt get any easier! Total time 5 minutes. ...No Brainer!

Silmply replaced the knob. This is the second knob I have replaced on this dryer. This time I bought two for when it happens again. Not sure if it is too much rension in the timer or too little strength in the knob, but is a design problem.

Pulled front panel off, popped off the old switch, popped on the new switch. Good to go.

The fact that the knob on a 3yr old dryer broke was harder to deal with than the repair. It was lift the old knob off (it was very loose) and snugly slide the new knob on. I can get back to reading my book and my wife thinks I'm a hero win-win!

Basically, I ordered 2 slides the bearing and the felt, all of which I was told were "usually" the cause of the noise issues. I believe they were, I replaced them all and it runs quiet as a church mouse! Thank you for all the help..

i opened the dryer door and took out the two bolts with phillips screw driver.i raised the top of the dryer up a little bit to un bolt the screws one on the left and one on the right.lift up on the front the dryer and pull out.you should be able to fix the problem. watch video of this sight how to help you fix problem it helped me alot.

Initially purchased just the plastic slides, but when I opened the dryer I found the top drum bearing was smashed and the plastic was basically gone in a whole section, so I then ended up ordering the bearing as well. If you hear the loud squeaking, just buy the top drum bearing and the 4 slides (two white and two dark green). It is an easy repair and the squeaking sound is gone.

Watched your video, very helpful, not exactly the same unit but all the essentials were there. The only step that was time consuming was the belt replacement with tensioner. Also needed help with the rear bearing installation. Either the drum in the video was smaller or the technician was a gorilla, couldn't reach both inside and outside as required.

Removed door and two screws to replace the door handle. Reassemnled in reverse order. It was a snap.

First I took the dryer apart to see what the problem was and found that the felt dryer guide had come off it's mount and was broken. Next I saw that the dryer glides were worn away and if it was used much more it would have ruined the whole housing. I ordered the parts from parts select and to my pleasant surprise they were there in two days. The glides sit right over the door and just slip right in. The felt goes on the bottom under the door and sits in a plastic guide in which the felt is placed I tied the ends of the felt down on the ends with a piece of small wire to make sure they stay in place. It's been two weeks since my repair and there are no problems.
