Neither side of our side by side fridge was cooling.
Watched the repair video on the site to help determine what part we might need. After taking the panels off we could see that it was icing up. Part ordered was genuine GE and arrived very quickly. After part arrived we watched the video again to make sure we knew what to do. Other than it was hard to get both shoulders into the side by side (it was narrow)the repair went fine. Thank goodness for your site, it saved us a bunch of money in service calls and more expensive part.

refridgerator would not cool, yet had ice on inside back panel on freezer side
it's a side by side ge fridge/freezer. When it quit freezing or keeping cool on fridge side we googled on line the make and what was wrong. Plenty of videos popped up on you tube. There were so many different items that suggested what was wrong that we just watched a view and quickly diagnosed the problem. It was so cool how the videos walked you thru testing and diagnosing. I then ordered the part being the heater and the thermostat coil. I ordered both just in case. Once I recieved the parts I took off the inside back panel on freezer side, exposing the coils which were iced over badly. I then unscrewed the heater at the bottom of coils and simply replaced it with the new. The only problem that I came across was the new part (heater) did look different that the one I took out. It was a doulbe instead of a single. I was a little worried about this. I went ahead and installed it using a screw driver. I then put back on panel by screwing it on with a elec screw gun. Plugged it in and wow, it worked. I was so happy. I just knew that this was either gonna cost a fortune to have someone come out or at the worst have to buy a new one. Very expensive! Instead, thanks to the videows and the ease of ordering then installing the part I spent about $32.00 Made me happy. I will definetly pass on this info and will use this process again should the need arise. We live out in the country which means just to have someone come out and look at it would have cost a $100 trip fee, plus parts and labor. Thanks again for the help and ease at solving a problem that could have resulted in a hardship for our family

We have cut the broken part and using union connector we connected it back to the original tubing on one side and to the connector at the bottom. It was easily done with great help from the video on file at the site. Keep up a great work PartsSelect !

Lateral split in original 5/16 poly tubing at rear of refrigerator for water dispenser
Located the split in original tubing - only visible when the water dispenser is activated. Using a razor blade knife, cut the tubing 4 to 6 inches on each side of the split. Remove the bad pieceof tubing and use as a length guide to mark the new 5/16 tubing. Install a 5/16 union connector on each end of the new tubing, careful not to overtighten the plastic union hex nuts. Place the new tubing with unions where the bad tubing was, tighten the union hex nuts, and bingo you're done. Left mine setting out for a day to watch for leaks. Took longer to get the two wrenches and pull the fridge out than it did to repair the tubing. This is the only place I found 5/16 unions and tubing in short lengths. Thanks

The coils in the back of the freezer were periodically freezing over
I used the website diagnosis feature to figure out what to order. I really didn't need the thermostat but I didn't check closely enough to realize that. When I took the old heater element out, it was clearly burned out. I found a repair video on Youtube. Everything worked out well. So far so good.

Worn Out Cams on Bottom Hinges
I replaced both bottom hinges on my GE refrigerator. The hint that they were worn out was that both the freezer door and fresh food door would not close completely. You had to lift the door on the hinge to get it to close. Many of the GE service repair people recommend complete removal of each door to replace the bottom hinge. I found I could use a couple of wood blocks tall enough to take the weight of the door, jacking it up off of the hinge so could loosen the hex head screws. The freezer door hinge took a few minutes longer because the water supply line for the icemaker which is routed through the tube in the hinge. Overall, an easy repair and the cost of two repair visits was saved.

Broken 5/16 line from filter to water tank in fridge
Others have described how to do this repair better. I will simply add - if you're cutting the line inside the fridge to repair/replace be sure to check as their are two (2) clear 5/16th lines. Once goes from the solenoid to the tank inside the fridge and another from the tank up to the filter. They're identical and side by side. Remove the drawers and foam covering the one line to make sure you cut the right one...otherwise you will be ordering a 2nd water tube union like I did.
