Left drawer slide rail was cracked.
I took out the drawer and the glass shelf. All that was required after that was to unscrew the old part and replace it with the new one using the old screws. Very easy!
I used a short Phillips screwdriver to remove 2 screws that held the broken left slide rail in place. Then I screwed the new part in place. Really, really easy!
The slide rail holding the vegetable drawer cracked an dbroke
I removed the 2 screws that had held the cracked drawer slide rail. The new slide rail fit perfectly. I screwed it in using a phillips head screw driver and the drawer slid back in place. Very easy!
broken side rail - vegetable drawer would not open and close
I removed the drawer and broken piece, then I screwed in the two screws to put the new piece in place. I then had trouble putting the shelf back in place due to the piece being a little bent. I loosened the front screw and was able to manuver the shelf in place with a little force. The new bracket works great.
I had to remove the 4 screws that holds the coil cover to the freezer then I had to thaw the coils with a hair dryer then removed the thermostat, unplugged the heater assembly, unscrewed the 4 screws that holds the heaters in, then reversed the process to put the new heater assembly in. It was simple!!
Really simple, I used a can of soup and a small piece of wood set under the door, and tapped it tight with the hammer to hold it in place while I removed the hinge. Two bolts at the bottom and two under the door itself. Installed the new hinge set, bolted tight and removed the shim. The whole thing took less than 5 minutes
1st I unscrewed the side rails after I removed the drawer. I saved the screws and both rails until I received the new ones. There were 2 screws in each side. 2nd I looked online at the parts select web page. The exploded diagrams were extreemly helpful. Like most people my appliance book does not have this feature. I ordered the 2 rails for the drawer on Sunday morning and the parts were here by Wednesday afternoon..very good service in my opinion. I then proceeded to replace the two side rails with the screws that I saved from dismantling them. I then put the drawer back into the refrigerator and it worked perfectly. This repair was easy and it saved me a $60.00+ dollar service call and a longer wait period to get the repair done! I will continue to use part select.com for all my appliance repair work. Thanks
The fresh food side of my refrigerator had started to drop because of a broken cam riser.
First I pulled the door up to the top hinge and propped it up with phone books. Secondly I used a nutdriver with an 8mm attachment and removed the bottom hinge. Thirdly, I removed one screw from the bottom of the door with a socket and 8mm attachment and removed the broken cam riser. Being careful as to take note of how the cam was positioned. I then attached the new cam riser to the bottom of the door, attached the bottom hinge to the refrigerator, making sure the pieces (cam riser and plastic on bottom hinge) matched up and after everything was tight, removed the phone books. Remember to first remove the vent on the bottom of the refrigerator and it is much easier to maneuver the door if you empty the contents on the inside. Very easy, I am not very mechanically inclined and this is the first job that I finished in the amount of time as stated. Also, do not chance just the riser as both pieces will be worn. Hinge assembly comes with all you will need.
The drawer slide broke and I just removed the 2 screws that were still in the side of the refrigerator. I then screwed the new drawer slide in the same holes and it was done!! Simple, simple....even for me, the housewife.... ; )
The right drawer slide rail breaks in several places, for the 2nd time
1) The large drawer is first removed from the guide that remained on the side wall.
2) Removal of the light shield from the rear of the glass shelf to facilitate glass shelf removal by lifting the rear edge of the glass and remove it.
3) Unscrew two phillips head screws holding the remaining pieces of the plastic guide to the interior side panel of the fridge.
4) Examine the replacement guide and insure that the nylon guide and stop parts are clicked into place. If unsure, look at the guide on the other side to ensure that both are present and completely seated before installation of the replacement guide. (These usually fall out of the guide during shipping and should be in the bag with the guide!)
5) Once the guide is outfitted with the nylon guides, secure the new guide with the two phillips screws and DO NOT over tighten, remember you are dealing with plastic guide and steel screws going into a steel cabinet.
6) Re-install the glass shelf, followed by the light shield and finally the large drawer which should slide out smoothly to the stop and back closed without any drag.
7) A successful installation usually includes giving the drawer and glass shelf a good cleaning that probably could be done to the entire fridge side of the unit.
Freezer doesn't work well. Starts to leak water & Frost buildup
I had this problem before and called a repair guy. He told me about the little freezer heater (WTF?) and showed me that it's basically a light bulb that wears out. He took off the back panel and showed me the metal plates with the tubes under neath. But he only had one bulb to replace with, so he only fixed one of the two. Total cost to "change a light bulb": $229 This time I ordered the part and did the work myself. It was totally easy, but that is because I knew what I was doing. The hardest part is squishing into the freezer to unscrew things. Before I took it all apart, I used my cellphone camera to take a picture of how it was (which wires went where), just in case after taking the old one off, I couldn't remember how to put the new one on. No problem. The actual part swap took ~5 min (unhooking and rehooking the temp gauge and the power connector). Most of the time was just unscrewing and screwing in the screws.
I would recommend removing the dor first as I had to do this after fighting with the drawer to get it out. There is a cap on the hinge that has one screw, then two nuts and the door is off. From there the drawer rails are easily replaced.
I removed the old broken part and replaced with the new part. Simple as pie, my husband was so happy and impressed I had it done by the time he got home from work!!!!
