Water leaking from under fridge.
I turned off the power and water supply to the refrigerator Pulled fridge out, found leak at water valve. Removed valve, got on internet found partsselect and was able to match it up by model and picture. It was a lot easier than I expected it to be, thanks to the pictures. I ordered the part on Sunday night and got it Tuesday. Unbelievable. Put it in in about 10 minutes and drinking cold water with ice cubes again. The fridge wasnt down long enough to acually run out of ice. the fridge is 12 years old and keeping its maintenance low is a priority. If I had to hire a repair service we would probably thought seriously about replacing it.

Frig cool where it should be frozen, frozen where it should be cool.
Paid a repair guy $260 in November 2011 to do the same job. He must have felt gulity because he left me with the GE info that gave the part number and the repair instructions. When the same problem as 2011 appeared early in 2012 I did a google search using the part number. A lot of hits, PartsSelect was at the top of the list. When I saw the price of the part with delivery was less than 40 bucks I was ready to give it a shot. THEN I watched the how-to video on the PartsSelect page and there was no question I had to give it a shot. Ordered the part on Saturday, shipped on Monday, got it Tuesday. The install was exactly like the video. Four screws, two wires. put the four screws back in. Done. Shameful GE quality having to replace the same part under 2 years. Terrific value AND service from PartsSelect. I hope GE doesn't find out!

Holes didn't match threaded backing plate
Removal was easy. The problem was that the old hinge had screws approximately 3/4 inch apart. The new hinge assembly had screws 1 inch apart. The threaded backing plate matched the 3/4 inch spaced old hinge but would not line up with the new one. There was a hole in the refrigerator frame but no way to hold the screw from the back. I had to fine a bolt and nut that would fir and still be heavy enough to hold the weight of the door. This repair took place at my cabin--miles from any hardware store. I found a long enough bolt and nut but it was a little too big for the hole in the hinge. I had to drill the hole in the hinge out so it would fit. Trying to reach the back of the bolt with a nut was a problem. I used tape wrapped backwards on my finger to hold the nut and then reached around to start the bolt into the nut. It too a few tries but I finally got it. Bottom screw was not a problem. It took about an hour and a half to fix the door but it works fine now.

refrigerator side not cooling at all
All work is done in FREEZER compartment - food and racks must be removed; if rear of compartment is iced up,allow to defrost - DO NOT USE TOOLS to remove ice 1.UNPLUG from wall recptacle 2.Remove cover from light 3.Remove light bulb (as a precaution) 4.At the bottom of the rear panel locate the drain hole and cover it to keep screws out of it 5.At the top of the panel remove the two phillips head screws 6.Slide the ground wire off the edge of the panel 7.Carefully lift the panel straight up until the bottom just clears the plastic rails on the walls near the bottom of the compartment; turn the panel slightly to one side and remove it 8.Locate the defrost heater assy. on two brackets below the coils and remove the two phillips head screws to loosen it from the brackets NOTE: There are two types of assemblies - one wire on each end or both wires on one end; the replacement has both on one end (instructions are included with it - simple) 9.(my old assy. had a wire on each end)Unplug the Pink and Blue wires from the assy. 10.Carefully pull the wire that went to the LEFT side, up over the top of the coils and feed it down the RIGHT side next to the other wire 11.Plug the two wires into the right end of the new assy. 12.Place the assy. on the brackets and replace the screws 13.Replace the panel taking care not to pinch the wires AND making sure the ground clip is back in place 14.Replace the bulb and cover 15.PLUG the POWER CORD into the wall You may want to check your temperature settings My refrigerator had not worked right for three years. I "rigged" it so we could use it. Then I found this site. Now we have a "NEW" refrigerator.

Ice Maker not making ice
The video on the GE site was great. Showed step by step instructions on how to remove the old ice maker and install the new one. Also helpful was the detail on the water chute which needed to be moved from the old ice make to the new one. Saved hundreds of dollars by not having to have a repairman do this work for me.

The track that the crisper draw slides into broke
The part broke on Sat, my husband was out of town..I decided early Sunday morning to research the parts. I found partselect through my google search, just loved the site...very easy to locate the parts I needed...watched the video and decided I could fix it myself. Two days later I received the parts and it took me about 20 minutes to make the repair ..it was such a good feeling to know that I did it myself...I did not even have to rely on my husband ...love ...love...love this website!
