upper part of agitator did not turn because of worn out teeth on the agitator cogs.
The repair went smoothy except for removing the screw that holds the upper agitator part from the bottom agitator. Once that was removed all went smoothly. Considering my washer is 17years old, I guess I should be happy that was my only problem. I followed the directions of the repairman in the video that was provided by the web site. Most of my parts matched his parts :). My husband was very proud that I repaired the washer and was able to diagnose the problem. Thanks for helping me save some $$$$. I'm pleased and am very happy to have solved the problem on my own. My husband teases me about hanging a shingle. Thanks, Zina
The top portion of the agitator was not turning so that laundry could be drawn down in the wash tub. The problem was 4 little cogs that where worn and would not catch on a gear/cog portion of the bottom portion of the agitator. the cogs where about $10 delivered and it took about 25 min. to install (from top of washer). The old cogs, I also repaired by taking them out and using a hacksaw to redefine the grooves on them. They are still working, so I will hold on to the new parts until needed.
I watched your video, followed the instructions, and in 20 minutes I had a new washer! The repair man estimated the cost for repair at $150, but I didn't want to spend that much money on a 20-year-old washer, so I ordered the agitator repair kit, cost $12, and it arrived the very next day! I did exactly what the video indicated and within 30 minutes my washer was agitating like never before. Thank you so much for the video instruction, it was fantastic.
got the parts from parts select and got the machine repaired quickly what a savings repair man would have been over 100 dollars the shipping was more than the parts but I saved greatly with no repairman love your site and the great savings i really loved my washing machine and hating to lose it was so satisfied that I could save it after all these years thanks
Go to youtube and watch how to repair washing machine agitator. It is so easy. did the repair. Now it works, less than $20.00 to fix. Now I don't need to buy a new washing machine. Maybe it will make it another 15 years.....
Washer stopped agitating. I removed the clothes softener cup on top of the agitator by grasping and pulling up, inside the agitator I removed the inner plastic cap by grasping the 2 finger tabs and pulling up. There was a plastic retainer assembly with spring instead of the 7/16 nut referred to in other posts. I used a long 1/2" ratchet extension to remove the plastic retainer assembly, removed the top half of the agitator and replaced the cogs, then replaced the agitator, plastic retainer assembly with spring, snapped the plastic cap back on, and replace the clothes softener cup.
Could be done in place, but it's easier to pull the full agitator assembly out first, and work at a table. Remove the fabric softener dispenser, then the plastic cap below (with rubber o-ring)- both pull out by hand. Reverse the now visible bolt with an extended 7/16" socket and pull the cog housing up and out, gripping with gentle pressure with pliers ( locking plastic tabs make this piece impossible to remove by hand). Once the housing is removed it's easy to separate the two halves with your fingernails and replace the cogs. I was able to reassemble everything and push it back down into the drum in about two minutes. Piece of cake- I highly recommend anyone with a tool box do this himself.
Repair was simple and quick. Started by removing softener cup and removed bolt holding part that housed dogs. Removed housing and slipped of hold down clamp and replaced the 4 dogs then reversed procedure all took about 8 mins
Pop the top off the agitator, remove the bolt, pull off the agitator, pull out the part holding the cogs (dog ears),remove and replace cogs, reassemble. Works great now.
Top part of agitator did not work. It would only turn sometimes.
I followed a repair video on YouTube It is easier to disassemble the agitator and replace to cogs The hard part was placing the top part of the agitator back onto the bottom parts, after I replaced the cogs. i use a flashlight to help see where the two separate pieces of the agitator need to be to connect the back together properly ( top agitator & bottom agitator). Once this sep is completed you have to place the whole agitator and line it up on the agitator rod. Line up the groves as much as possible. Turn the agitator slowly until it slides into place. Then use your socket wrench to tighten the screw. The screw is the last step to attach the agitator back onto the washing machine. Then replace the cap, to keep water from going down into the washing machine. Then replace the fabric softener dispenser. Now you have a great washing machine. I am a women and did this repair by myself.
Removed the agitator cap, then removed the plastic, spring loaded retaining part (needed a square head tool). Once out, the cog retainer came out, replaced all four cogs, and replaced in reverse. Easy as pie & took 10 minutes!!
