6898VVV Magic Chef Range - Instructions

Followed directions as supplied. New part did not work, so it must be in the control unit which is no longer available. So time for a new range.

Placed new knob directly on post. No problem

Remove two Phillips head screws , detach element , replace with new one. Very simple

I ordered the part on a Monday morning and I had it on Tuesday. (I used regular shipping) Took out the oven racks and unscrewed the element. I pulled out the element about 4 inches and disconnected the wires, and removed the element. I made sure the wires were not burned and that the connectors looked good. They did. I simply connected the wires to the new element and screwed it back in place.

Turn off power 220v, opened cook top, remove old 8" switch and replace with one of the new switch ps2089438. However, I have another cook top, it is a 6" heating element. Can I use the same switch for 8" and use on a 6" heating element? Since I order 2 new ps2089438 switches. Thank you for your anwser. Kahn lee

The repair was simple and made even easier by the part select web site. I'm very well versed on the web but have never ordered from a site quite like this. Having customers comment on their experiences in the actual use of their purchases is a super idea. I followed the instructions posted by others and found the replacement of the element easy. Thanks for all the input of other do-it-yourself experts.

Unpluged oven, removed two screws, pulled out old unit about 6" removed wires. put new unit in oven connected the two wires, carefully pushed it back till mounting brackets lined up with holes replaced screws done. preformed a 400deg test as per repair vidio sugested. Passed.

Turned off breaker,opened door with bent coat hanger by sliding right to left the coat hanger to open the door, remover 2 screws holding in the sensor in upper left corner of the oven. Remove the sensor (gently) with the wire connection from back of oven pulling sensor out a out 8 inches . Disconnect plug. Install new sensor with matched harness /.connection, installed 2 screws ,turned on breaker.

Cut the power to the stove. Receptical was easy - just a two prong pull out and remove to replace with the purchcased item. The oven element was easy too but took a little time as you had to unscrew things in a few places, pull out the element, insert the new and rescrew.

Pulled stove out to unplug. Removed screws holding end covers then remove screws on the underside of cover as you face the stove top.Remove knobs.Pull bottom cover forward and up so you can lift it off to see the insides.Remove wires and attach to the new part one at a time. Unscrew old from the front and attach the new one.Put it back together.Done.

simply took off smooth surface top flipped it upsde down on a towel. unbolted the entire burner assembly. matched connections with the new burner with limit switch. replaced smooth surface top plugged it in. no problems. extremely easy fix no repair charges.

i unplugged the stove, waited for it to cool.. took a screwdriver and unscrewed the two screws attaching it to the back of the oven.. unclipped the connectors.. got online, after looking up the serial number and purchased a new one.. the part came in 3 days, clipped the ends onto the connectors, shoved them thru the holes in back of oven, and screwed both of them back into the back of the oven.. and wala, ready to bake!!! yippee! on a sidenote.. we did not use the stove top while the baking element was unattached.. I replaced the oven sensor which was easy to replace. A pigtail wire was provided with the sensor which is intended to be installed first so you don't have to reach around the front and back of the oven at the same time. The replacement was easy. However, that turned out not to be the problem. The real problem was the maytag electronic clock control timer, temperature control unit. The part number is 7601P177-60. This device has been discontinued and I was fortunate enough to find the part at a local supplier. Once I replaced this, the problem went away. The oven heats up normally. My original symptom was that when setting the oven temperature to something like 350 degrees, the display would rapidly report heating up the oven to that temperature, and the oven was only mildly warm. If you have that symptom, it is probably not the oven sensor. It is the electronic clock unit. Hope you can find one. If you can't, I think you need to by a new oven. Regards
