40250128 General Electric Dishwasher - Instructions

The Prep Work and putting the dishwasher back in place took up most of the time. The actual replacing the upper spray arm hose only took a couple minutes. The dishwasher was leaking. We pulled it out by removing the bottom front cover plates, unscrewing the top lip screws from the counter, loosening the 4 legs with a 1 inch wrench and carefully pulling the dishwasher out, placing cloths on the leg bottoms to avoid scratching the floor. Once out, we watched it run and could see water gushing out of the top hose. The hose was covered in a sticky glue all over the top. This was hard to remove, but we found scraping the glue off, then cleaning with fantastick and a brillo pad removed most of the glue quickly. We then saw the top hose has a lip that was GONE. The hose ends at the bottom of the dishwasher attached with a metal screw on clamp- very easy to remove. Once the top was glue free, we removed 2 hexagon screws with a tiny socket set, which releases the inside spray arm. The spray arm came right down and we rinsed it out- pieces of the old rubber from the hose came out. We ordered the new hose here from Part Select and received it in 3 DAYS!!! The new hose has a lip on top, which you gently push into the small top hole. When no more can be pushed through, you pull gently from the inside. Once the lip is inside, you seat it into the cleaned spray arm. Then screw the top 2 hexagon screws into the arm. Now attach the bottom hose with the clamp and screw. Go back to the top and squeeze on some clear RTV Silicone Adhesive onto the screws and hose where it goes into the hole. Also around the hose to hold it in place. Let it set up for 24 hours. It sets up as rubber. Test for leaks again. Now put the dishwasher back. Adjust the legs to fit- this takes time, and you are done! For an $8.00 part and some RTV silicone sealant for $5.00, you will get another 10 years out of your new spray arm hose! It's very do-able for anyone and so much cheaper than a new dishwasher! Remove the retaining screw in the top of the hub and install new hub in reverse.

This was really easy. The parts fit perfectly. First i turn off power at circuit panel; turn off water and dissconnected water line and discharge hose. Removed dishwasher from under counter and placed on side. Disconnected connections to motor and pump and replaced and installed same as one unit.

part came in the mail and fit the missing space perfectly. no complaints. easy fix.

I removed the old cap and put on the new cap.

I took the dishwasher out from under the sink and looked at the pump and motor, saw that the cooling fan that this old style motor used was broke. Ordered this kit and installed it. I didn't even look at the directions that simple of a swap. Thank God!

I had some extra problems with my water supply line since this is an old house, but I won't dwell on that. If you have an older model like mine (probably 80's) the only trick is with the drain solenoid. The kit uses a newer style solenoid that is a little different. Without getting too technical here, let me just say that if the old solenoid has a little metal lever that is actuated when the plunger goes down do not discard it. From what I have read, the dishwasher will shut down with an error code if you don't use this part and you will also have 2 wires that are just hanging there with nothing to plug in to. You will need to use an included metal plate and screws to adapt that part to the new assembly. It takes a little mechanical aptitude, but after you figure it out it works perfectly. I did not see this mentioned in the instructions but the necessary parts were included. Replacing the pump and motor was fairly simple, and all the needed parts were included in the kit. I did remove the unit from under the counter and lay it on it's back for easy access to the pump and motor. It helps to watch some You-tube videos if you are unsure about how to do this, but make sure they are working on the brand you have. All dishwashers are NOT the same.

with a dishwasher. Someone had 'packed' the silverware basket and there wasn't one in my dishwasher! Ordered one from here, when it arrived, opened the box, opened the dishwasher and placed it in the correct place. Closed dishwasher - DONE!

I googled "dishwasher will not drain" and replacemed drain solenoid. The repair was relatively easy.

I went to PartSelect online and easily found an exact duplicate of my old basket at a reasonable price. I ordered it, expecting delivery in about 3 - 5 days. It was on my doorstep 2 days after the order was placed. I opened the dishwasher door, set it in the place of my choice, and what a timesaver! Try it! You'll like it!

On this model the panel under the door can be removed by unscrewing two hex screws on the upper panel and two phillips head screws on the lower vent panel. The drain solenoid is located on the left side of the pump and can be accessed easily without pulling the dishwasher out from under the counter. The solenoid is held in place with two phillips head screws, and the plastic actuator that is attached to the valve stem is simply press fitted on and held in place with a retaining ring. All necessary parts are included in the repair kit.

Turn off the power at the breaker panel. Turn off the water supply that goes to the dishwasher. Remove the front lower panel to gain access to disconnect the water line and electric. Now remove the two screws that connect the dishwasher to the countertop. You should be free to slide the dishwasher from under the countertop far enough to remove the drain hose. Slide the dishwasher out all the way and lay on the floor door down. Loosen the two clamps that hold the motor up. Remove the motor bracket, (should only be one screw. Disconnect the wires from the motor. Now just pull the motor down and out. Repeat the process to install the new motor. I took several pictures before I started removing anything. The instruction that comes with the kit is very good. Their will be parts in the kit that will not be used. Not to worry!

I looked on Part select at the model number of the dishwasher. I looked at the diagram of the diswassher and the hose. I read some of the repair stories. And became sure the upper hose was my problem and was armed with the ability now to fix my machine. Thanks PartSelect
