Outer Wash plate seal issue
This Calypso Washer has been a good work horse over the 10+ years that we have had it. Raising 3 Sons that played hockey this washer has been used. Over the last year, clothes would get stuck between the outer wash plate and the inner basket assembly. Washer would occasionally trip due to excess vibration. Removal of the wash plate for inspection I found socks, underwear that had slipped between the seal and basket causing the imbalance issue. Ordered new Outer Wash Plate and U-Joint assembly from Part Select and they arrived a few days later as promised. Unplugged electrical power and removed water supply lines. Moved Washer out to open space for 360 degree access around Washer. Reviewed Washer Maintenance manual and followed disassembly instructions. Lock nut securing original U-Joint assembly was difficult to remove so it was soaked with WD-40 for 5 minutes. Once Lock Nut was removed, removed old U-Joint assembly. Spent the next 30 minutes cleaning Drive shaft, Basket, Ring Tub, Balance Ring, to insure a clean installation. Remember, The Balance Ring has fluid inside as per design. Once everything was clean, Applied a thin film of O-Ring Lube/Seal to O-Ring and installed new O-Ring, U-Joint assembly, and lock nut. Tightened Lock Nut as per instructions. Aligned leveler spline with shaft and installed. Applied a small amount of RTV on Inner Wash Plate Seal and mated with the Inner Wash Plate taking note of notch location. Install Inner Wash Plate over Leveler and ensure that it is fully seated. Install Outer Wash Plate carefully as to not damage the outer seal. Install Cap Screws (bolts) and torque as per installation instructions. Install Wash Plate Dome. Lightly press around the outside of the Outer Wash Plate to ensure that the U-Joint Assembly is working properly. Inspected Balance Ring and install. Clean / Inspect Tub Ring Seal and install Tub Ring. Since the Top of the Washer is exposed, this is a good time to wipe everything clean and check for any loose wires or connectors. Ensure that you re-install the water hose to the Tub Ring. Finish assembly as per Manual. Re-connect Water lines, Drain Line, and lastly plug Washer back in to the electrical outlet. Open Water Valves and check for leaks. Once complete, I ran a gentle load cycle with no clothes in the washer to ensure that Washer operated correctly with no unusual noise and no leaks. Then washed a normal load of towels and washed/listened to washer during the cycle. Washer performs almost like new.
