This primary air filter element in your lawn equipment filters the air that enters the engine for combustion. It is a cylindrical-shaped filter made of pleated paper and is typically located within the air cleaner housing, secured by an end cap. The filter element has an inner safety element that provides an extra layer of protection. It measures 10 1/2 inches in length, with an outer diameter of 4 1/8 inches and an inner diameter of 2 1/2 inches. To determine if the filter element needs to be replaced, check for visible signs of damage or excessive dirt buildup. A damaged or clogged element restricts airflow and allows dirt and debris to enter the engine, resulting in reduced performance. To replace the filter element, unhook the retaining clips and detach the end caps of your air cleaner housing from the machine. Remove the old element from the housing and insert the new one.
