I purchased the door latch and gasket #ps979850 and when i went to install it and took the old one off, i didn't pay close enough attention to which wires went where and when i hooked them back up (white and black color) on both sides, it kept tripping my breaker. Then i switched wires around and then my whole dishwasher was smoking. Do you think i fried the motor in the dishwasher?
Hi Debbie,
Thank you for your inquiry. I think you will need to investigate where inside the dishwasher it started smoking to verify what part is causing the issue and then proceed to either order a replacement part or maybe get a new appliance if the damage is too bad. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

The latch broke on my dishwasher and one of the rollers went missing
The repair was extremely easy!!!!!!!! All I had to do was unscrew the 6 screws on the inside of the door panel. After that I had to unscrew the 2 screws that attached the latch to the panel. Once they were off I just pulled off the 4 wires from the old latch and slid them back on the corresponding metal "tongs" of the new latch. I attached the latch to the panel with the 2 screws. After that I pushed the panel back onto the door and screwed the 6 screws back in......voila.....all done(-:
It was easy to replace the latch. 4 screws to take the cover off... two star screws for the latch assy. and 4 wires. NOTE: be sure to kill the power to the washer

The plastic door latch handle broke-off and fell into pieces.
Removed 6 screws, pulled the front cover forward, removed the old door latch, installed the new latch, replaced the screws, DONE! Took about 10 minutes. The new door latch works to open and close the door, and the dishwasher runs fine when the door is closed. However, the new door latch does not lock the door into place like the old one did. I didn't remove the screws and loor latch assembly again, but there must be a difference between the old part or the new part. And I noticed that the old part number and the part number of the replacement part are not the same, although the website indicated that it was the correct part for my model.

Dishwasher latch broken, knob broken on load size switch on washer
For the clothes washer, I removed the back of the control panel, which allowed acces to the broken switch. One screw attached the switch to the chassis, which I removed. I removed 4 electrical wires and a vacuum line from the switch and attached them to the new switch, and installed it. Reinstalled the control panel, after checking function of the new switch.
The dishwasher needed a new door latch, so I removed the screws attaching the face plate assembly from the door. This allowed acces to the broken latch, which was attached with two screws. Removal of the latch and wires was easy, as was installing the new latch in reverse order of disassembly. I replaced the door gasket as it came in the kit, and it's installation was a snap.
Total repair time for both appliances was perhaps one half hour.
Intuitive repair if you are one of those people that take things apart & put them back together for kicks. Nothing fancy about this repair, as all the parts have no adjusting. Remove the 6 phillips heads screws on the inside of the dishwasher panel. The front electric panel comes off, leaving the inside exposed with the wires. Unhook 4 wires to the handle. Remove (2) star shaped screw headed screws. (The most difficult part if you don't have this bit.) New handle can only go in one way. Re-attach wires & screw panel back on. The latch required pulling the dishwasher out a couple inches from under the countertop to access the mounting screws. The dishwasher is held in place with 2 screws into the countertop/or side cabinet. Slide dishwasher out. Remove 2 screws and replace. Once again, there is only one way the latch can be installed. All is good, and easily accomplished in 5 minutes....if you have the "star" bit, which does come in a couple different sizes.
I removed the screws on the inside of the dishwasher door to remove the front facade to get access to the door latch assembly, I think about 6 screws. Then I unscrewed the two hex screws that mounted the latch assembly to the door. I then had to un-hook the electrical wires (4 plugs, 2 on a side) from the assembly. I attached those same plugs to the new door latch, and mounted the assembly back on with the two screws, and tested the door to see if it closed, latched, and if the dish washer would run (since I unhooked and rehooked up the electrical wires). Finally I screwed the front facade back on and was done. It took about 5 minutes. I did get a small shock when I was removing the electrical plugs from the old assembly from touching the metal dish washer door and one of the plugs at same time.

Dishwasher Door Latch was broke.
After receiving my part in a timely manner, I removed the six screws holding the cover on the door. After making sure the appliance was unplugged, I removed the two star screws and removed the broken latch assembly. I disconnected the four electrical wires noting their placement. I connected the wires to the new latch assembly, screwed the assembly to the door, and replaced the cover on the door. That was one of the best quick-fix experiences I have ever had. Thanks PartSelect.com!!!!

The plastic handle broke on the door latch assembly
I removed 6 screws to get to the door latch, then removed 2 screws to remove the broken latch assembly. Changed out 4 wires, reinstalled the 2 screws that attached the latch to the door, thenreinstall the 6 screws that assemble the door back together. Everything fit and works properly. Thanks guys, your service was great.

Our latch had broke and and needed to be replaced.
This repair project was easy enough that my 15 yr old son had it almost all done without me. The hardest part was getting the wires unplugged from the old latch. Once we got the pliers out to help us get a grip, everything went smoothly! This was a quick and easy fix for an older dishwasher that still works!

Latch works like new!
We didn't need the gasket and would have preferred to only purchase the latch, but since that wasn't an option we were happy that the latch repair was so easy :)
