Timer was hard to turn and knobs broke
This repair has been done to death on youtube etc. My dryer and washer are located in a small space with folding doors. The worst part was getting at the screws in back of the control panel. Once this was accomplished it was a simple matter of folding the panel forward and removing the old timer with wires attached and one by one removing
... Read more the wires while attaching them to the respective terminals on the new timer. A simple task and then replacing the screws to refasten the control panel. This is my second replacement of the timer. I wonder why a more reliable timer doesn't exist for these units. I would have paid a premium price for a more reliable timer.

timer stem was worn out. causing the knob to slip on the stem.
I turned off the power at the panel. Removed the three screws from the rear top panel and removed the timer. I then transferred the wiring from the old one to the new one and replaced the panel. I then restored the power and tested the operation, Worked perfectly.

Timer wouldn't advance
We disconnected the dryer. On the back panel, we removed the screws and exposed the existing timer. We carefully disconnected it from each of the connections, then plugged in all of the connections on the new timer. We put the back panel back in place, secured it, and replaced the knob on the timer.

Timer didn’t turn, but knob did.
However, before replacing the timer, check the backside of the knob for cracks on the part that goes on the timer spindle. The original knob may have cracked, making you think the timer is bad, since the knob turns but the timer doesn’t. The new knobs are reinforced with a metal band to prevent cracking. If the knob is cracked, the fix is

Broken knobs due to bound up timer
Replaced old timer by disconnecting wires and installing new timer with those same wires. Works like a charm!

I replaced my original timer with this one about a year ago and the plastic shaft on the timer has began to round off making the knob unable to turn the timer. If i replace the timer again is there a way to make sure this won't happen again a year from now? Thank you
For model number DRSR483GG7WW
Hi Jake,
Thank you for your question. The only thing that you can do is make sure not to be too forceful while turning your knobs. Unfortunately the manufacturer makes that shaft out of plastic and it will wear eventually. How fast it wears is determined on how much the appliance is used and how much force is being put on turning the knob. Good luck with your repair.

Timer switch will not move on its own, have to play with it , to get it to heat up, it feels like switch is not engaging properly, is this common with switch going bad or is it more likely something else, have to find right adjustment to get it to heat mode.

Hi Louis,
Thank you for the question. If you can play with it or manually move it forward then I suggest replacing the Timer, PartSelect Number: PS9491768.

The dryer doesn't turn off automatically. Do i need to replace the timer?
For model number DWSR463EG7WW
Hi Willie,
Thank you for your question. There are a couple of parts that you will want to look at. I would suggest taking a look at your door switch, your thermostats, and your timer as being the likely parts. You can test them all with a multi meter to be sure. Good luck with your repair.

How do you remove and reinstall the timer assembly in the dryer? I have the back assembly removed but removing the timer assembly from the back is ???
For model number GTDP490GD1WS
Hi Vernon,
Thank you for your question. Here is some information that a customer posted on our website that you may reference on how to install the timer, "Turned off the electrical breaker to the dryer.
Removed the three screws holding the control panel. Removed the old knob. Tilted the control panel forward to expose the wiring and controls. Removed the screw holding the old timer and loosened the timer - leaving the wires hooked up. Then I removed one wire at a time and reconnected to the corresponding terminal on the new timer until all of the wires were connected to the new timer. Replaced the timer and re-assembled the control panel on the dryer - turned the electric breaker back on." I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
