This piston ring is an OEM part that performs a seal between the piston and the cylinder wall of your engine. It is black in color, sold individually, and made of metal. Over time, your piston ring may be experiencing wear, stress, or fatigue, causing it to become damaged or worn. If your engine is experiencing poor performance, the piston ring may be the cause. A troubleshooting tip: perform a dry compression test first, and if the compression falls below manufacturer specs, next, perform a wet test. If the compression increases, you will know you have worn out piston rings, because the oil fills the gap between the piston ring and the cylinder walls, increasing compression. This is one of our more advanced repairs, but with a wrench, sockets, pliers, screwdriver, and a piston installation tool, you can carry it out yourself. The piston ring attaches around the piston, inside the groove on it. If there is more than one piston ring space, gap them away from each other so the compression does not blow past them into the crankcase.
