Light socket
The new light socket did not work. I believe the wiring to the socket has burned out. There was a electrical short which tripped the circuit breaker. Is is hard to get to the wiring that connects to the light socket. Model # J SP31W0V1WW

Light Bulb Socket for Range
Part fine; but the number was incorrect for the old light assembly already in the range. If you notice the image for PS256842, you will see a flange with two screw holes used for attaching the assembly to the back wall of range. The part received did not have the connection flange; thus, it could not be used. Apparently, GE has made another substitution so I had to call them and find out exactly which part was correct. I will be returning the first order and making another order from PartSelect to get the right part. THANKS for service.

Replace the light bulb socket.
Alls well that ends well. General Electric changed the configuration of our Light bulb socket on our 1996 oven. It did not have a flange with two screws as the original. The new one, you will just connect it and twist it into place. It worked and we are very happy. Such wonderful people to deal with at this site. Our sincere thanks,

Light wont work in oven lindagbrooks1@ comcast.Com
For model number jdp39wiww
Hi Neil,
Thank you for your inquiry. If the light is not working you will need to check the light socket and the wiring that connects to it to see which of these is causing the issue. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I ordered light assembly for Hotpoint oven. The part received ps256842 which is supposed to fit this oven does not have mounting holes for screws to attache to back panel. How am i to secure light assembly without the mounting bracket (flange)??
For model number RB755GT3AD
Hello Glenn, Thank you for your inquiry. According to the installation instructions, the new socket is just supposed to slide into a hole in the back panel and attach to the wiring harness. You have to take the back panel off the stove to access where you install it. Hope this helps!

By just turning it, i cannot remove the glass-cover (part 259 in your diagram of the light-bulb socket), does it just screw-out or is there a "trick"? How much can i force it without breaking it?
Hello Franz, thank you for contacting us. Some of those will come off with a clockwise turn. You may need rubber gloves for a better grip. Also if it is stuck you can try heating the oven a little as that may loosen it up some. Good luck with the repair!
