This is a 60 Hertz, 120-volt evaporator fan motor for your refrigerator. This part is located in the back of the freezer, and circulates air over the refrigerator coils. These coils will convert the heat into cool air, which is then circulated. The most common reason for needing to replace the motor is if the temperature in your freezer and fridge are inconsistent, or there is no air circulating at all. You will need a quarter inch nut driver and a pair of needle nose pliers for this repair. Note: This motor uses 2 brackets, which are sold separately.

My unit has started making a loud noise when it shuts off. It's hard to describe, it's like a "clunk' with a "rattle" and is pretty loud. The temperature in both fridge and freezer seem normal and everything is working as it should, it just has this loud noise. Any ideas?

Hello Geoff, thank you for your question. That issue is usually caused by the evaporator fan motor. I would suggest locating the motor, and watching the motor run until it shuts off to see if the noise is coming from there. If it is, the Evaporator Fan Motor - 60Hz 120V WPW10189703 would have to be replaced. I hope this helps!

The freezer section works great but the ref does not get up to cold enough temp. Cool but not cold. The bottom vents in the freezer section were frozen so defrosted and cleared them but ref still doesn,t get cold enough. Do you think i need a new fan unit? Is any way to check fan? Thanks jim

Hello Jim, thank you for your question. You can remove the back panel in the freezer to see if the fan is turning. You may also want to check the temperature control part number PS11756369. If the back vent was frozen this could have caused the motor to not turn and burn out. I hope this helps!

There is a layer of ice on the freezer floor and dipping water into the refrigerator shelves and drawers. Could this be a plugged drain from the freezer? Would a drain heater solve this problem? Thank you.

Thank you for your question. You model does not have a draining tube or tray for your freezer section. I imagine that you would need to check your thermostat to see if it is working correctly. It sounds like your freezer just is not staying cold enough. You could also check your run capacitor and your start relay as well. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

My refrigerator is 62 degrees in the frig part but the freezer is very cold and constantly runs and blows cold air and does not shut off. I did try to turn down the thermostat to the number 1 position but the freezer keeps running and the regular refrigerator is still at 62 degrees whether it is on the number 1 setting or coldest 5 setting. Theres a loud noise coming from my freezer and the fridge and freezer is not cooling as normal. Could this be the evaporator fan motor?

So, for my earlier question about the noise my Whirlpool fridge is making you suggested it might be the evaporator motor, however, the noise seems to be coming from the bottom of the unit not up in the freezer area where the evap fan is located. Could it be the condenser fan/motor? Thanks!

Thank you for contacting us back. There is a condenser fan motor in that location of the refrigerator. This fan motor circulates the air through the refrigerator grille and cools the compressor and condenser coils. It also helps to evaporate extra water in the drain pan. Last week i noticed about half a glass of water on the top of left shelve. I cleaned it with towel and was repeated about 6 hours later. This continued about two days. I adjusted humidifiers to the medium and reset the refrigerator from 4 to 2 (weather in the area was very cold). Water spill was stopped for one week. This morning i noticed the water spill again. I changed refg. Setting to 3. I'm waiting to see if water will pour again from the top of refrigerator. Please tell me the cause of the problem and the solution. Thanks

Thank you for your question. I would suggest you check your air diffuser between the fridge and the freezer at the back of your fridge. It sounds like the flap that closes them off from each other may be open too much. You may also want to check the evaporator drain pan in your freezer as well. Cleaned coils, checked for blockage, (none) replaced thermostat. Freezer gets to 0* but fridge only gets to 42*. As soon as door is opened temp goes up. Left side of freezer door is very hot, i mean about 130* with temp gun. I'm thinking either condenser fan is defective or defroster timer is shot. Any ideas?

I have to change the evaporator fan motor 60hz 120v (part number wpw10189703).This fan motor needs two (s) “caoutchouc pads” (i do not how to name them). what is the part number of this “caoutchouc pad” and the price ( i need two).

Hi Dennis, thank you for your question. When you are having temperature problems in your fridge, there are a few parts that could cause the issue. You can use a multi meter to test most of the parts. Make sure you cut power to your appliance before doing any repairs or tests. First you should test your defrost thermostat. Place the thermostat in ice cold water for 2-3 minutes after removing it from your appliance. It should be reading 0 ohms to be working correctly. Another part to check would be your defrost heater. Remove it from the appliance. It should be reading anywhere between 0 - 50 ohms to be working. You could check your temperature sensor. To find the correct reading for this part you will have to refer to your tech sheet that comes with your appliance. You can usually find this tech sheet behind the bottom grille of your fridge on either the right or left side. These are the most common parts that cause this issue in your appliance. So it is suggested you check them first. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

TOO COLD FREEZER, TOO WARM REFRIGERATOR, EVAP FAN FROZEN SOLID
I just followed the directions on the video of my specific model. Make a note of where to locate that video of your model, as there are many other videos of other models that can have different parts located in different areas and it can be time consuming finding the exact video you want again. Also note that you must make mental or written notes on exactly what direction any parts you remove are facing, this can save huge amounts of time when reassembling. I was worried that I might need other parts, but decided to do one part replacement at a time since this unit is a spare and no urgency to get it back working again. I found that the evaporator fan was the only thing needed! The fridge works like new again!

Refrigerator would not cool down. Evaporator fan inop.
Unplug, then remove shelving and rear panel. Remove fan motor, swap wired and install new motor. Reinstall in reverse order. Plug back in and verify the fan is running. Easy and nothing special. Only thing I would caution is they use a foam runner to the refrigerator that may be iced up. Carefully clean the ice out before reinstalling everything. A follow up note. If the fan has not been running, Ice will build up in the drain tube. When you start up the refrigerator, you will see water dripping into the lower shelf. This is easy to fix. Unplug refrigerator and disassemble to where you can see the coils. There will be ice on the bottom covering the drain line hole. You will need to carefully chip away the ice, then use a hair dryer to melt the ice. Carefully use a pointed tool to push in the drain tube until the water drains. Go slow and be patient. Heat is your friend when doing this.

The old motor has built in wire harness. The new motor has connectors on it.
Remove and clean out everything from the freezer and unplug the refrigerator. Take out the wire shelf in the freezer. (The fan motor is behind the back wall of the freezer, SO YOU CAN KEEP THE REFRIGERATOR CLOSED). Pop off the little cover on the center of the plastic shroud. Remove the little screw and carefully remove the plastic shroud. Remove the plastic cover for the optional ice maker on the upper left corner of the back wall. Take out the two screws in the upper corners on the back wall of the freezer and the last two screws holding the fan motor. The fan motor won't drop, remove the back wall and you will see two screws holding the motor mount. Remover those two screws, and pop the bracket out and separate.Take the two rubber motor mounts off the ends of the old motor and install them on the new motor. (Now you will have to cut the wires off the old motor), unplug the little wire harness, strip the ends and crimp on wire connectors to plug them onto your new motor. Its an AC motor so it shouldn't matter which hot goes on which of the two terminals. JUST MAKE SURE THE GROUND IS CORRECT! (After reinstalling the motor, plug in the refrigerator, turn it on before installing the shroud and make sure the fan is blowing outward. If all is correct, turn the refrigerator off, unplug and finish assembling the freezer. I found the new motor seems to run more efficiently than the old one.
Take bottom racks and baskets out of freezer. Remove back sheet metal panel, 8 screws. Remove motor and bracket, 2 screws. Umplug wires on motor. Remove two more screws to take mounting bracket off motor. Install in reverse order. Simple job. Maybe 20 minutes. Besure to shut freezer off before startin work.

Fridge was warm. No air circulating at all. Food was spoiling Fridge was just over 1 year old
First I removed the two screws that secure the guard in bottom back of the freezer and removed it . Next I removed the two screws that secure the guard on the back wall of the freezer and removed it. There are three wires connected to the motor, I unplugged those and removed the two screws that secure the motor and removed it. I swapped the grommets, blade and support bracket from the old motor. I put it back together in reverse steps and its working great. My mother-in-law can,t stop thanking me ! I saved her at least $400 to buy a new fridge. Thank You, Brian Miner
