Broken Microwave Door Springs (2)
This was the 3rd time that our microwave door springs broke. Was tired of paying $100s to local appliance repair companies. Keep in mind that the form factor of the springs are not the coil type but rather straight rods in design, slightly short of the width of the microwave door. STEP 1 - remove the two (2) screws from the upper rear (interior side) of the microwave door. The front of the door panel can then be removed. STEP 2 - remove the black lower (plastic) vent cover located directly below the microwave door (4 screws). STEP 3 - remove the black plastic inner unit that surrounds the inner microwave door glass (there are 2 screws at the bottom). STEP 4 - Once this part is removed you will see two (2) horizontal springs that crisscross at the bottom of the microwave door. Take a photo of the spring positions for reference. STEP 5 - remove the broken springs, replace with your new springs and reassemble in reverse order.

The spring on the door broke for 3rd time
Used the instructions I wrote up the last time. Printed them off, and still works like a charm.

This makes third time the spring has broken - last two times it has been the right side spring. Not the best designed microwave door. But at least with PartSelect having the part, and with PartSelect keeping my original instructions on the website, the repair is easy.

Broken spring in the microwave door
I followed the instructions that were posted for a do-it-yourself on the part. The instructions were spot on. One addition that I have to the online instructions is that I have a wall mounted microwave and had to remove the trim before starting the instructions. Additional instructions for wall mount are:

1. Remove one screw each side from inside the door to loosen the vertical trim.

2. Remove the vertical trim on each side.

3. Remove the 2 screws holding the bottom trim and remove the trim.

4, Follow the remaining instructions

The left most crew of two holding door front was not accessable due to closeness of lower oven vent.
Found a way to remove screw. Proceeded to insert new spring and tried to assemble but had same problem to put screw back in. No normal tool was able to fit in and could not remove vent. Finally able to engage screw and finished reassembly.

Spring for Door Broke
Remove 4 screws holding plastic vent between microwave and oven. Take off plastic vent. Remove two metal clamps at bottom of stainless panel (one screw on each clamp). Open door, remove two screws (recessed) at top of door that hold stainless panel (careful as panel is only connected by these screws and is heavy and door will spring shut without the weight of the panel...even with only one good spring) and put stainless door panel aside.

From bottom of door, remove two screws holding black plastic panel and put plastic panel aside. You should see the broken spring- remove it and replace with new spring. Note - hook the "lower" half of spring (the end with the U hook) first, then wedge/slide the other end until it hooks into slot.

Put parts back together in reverse order.

Thé torsion spring on the microwave door has broken. The black hook of the spring snapped off the right side. Do I need the 4452396 or 4452398 spring. Is there a difference? The superba is SS.

Having trouble removing the inter door pane lto replace the springs. There is two screws equally spaced from the edges, one which is above the oven (?) vent tube. I can't get an offset screwdriver in as there is about 1/2 " clearance above tube. It seems as only option is to remove the microwave from the cabinet. Or is there a way to move it forward about 2 inches?

Hi Robert, Thank you for your question. There is some information, that a customer has provided as to how they installed the spring that you may find helpful, "Remove 4 screws holding plastic vent between microwave and oven. Put parts back together in reverse order." I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
