Exact Replacement and SIMPLY GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE
Put the model number of the washer into the website search enging and got an unable to find. By experience I know the manufacturers will use a part over several models/years/decades, so gave customer service a call.
Angela in Nova Scotia - I think that's her name and forgive/correct me please if I'm getting it wrong - immediately pointed out that I was missing two digits on the model number and to look under the lid of the washer and not in the decades old manual. in hand. Patiently worked with me to find the damned tag - it's well hidden - and once found entered the info, and lo and behold the part was available.
Part arrived within 24 hours on standard shipping. Used simple hand tools - the videos helped tremendously - and a 35 year old otherwise rock solid washer was fixed, and now it's good for the next 35.
The real star of this whole show was Angela (I really hope that I'm getting her name right.) Proactive, made the intuitive leaps, held my hand while I was hunting for the damned manufacturer's tag, all that. More than anything she made the sale. She's a treasure, and for God's sake somebody do the right and smart thing and give her a raise and never let her go.
Sincere hanks to you and thanks to Angela for all your help.

Washing machine timer replacement
We appreciate the fast service sending us a replacement timer for our 26-yr old Whirlpool washing machine. We are happy that parts are still available - thank you. However, the part description stated that the part is no longer threaded to fit the original equipment installation screws, and that self-tapping screws would be necessary to install the replacement part. The new timer arrived with untapped installation holes, as expected. But, strangely, threaded screws were included that were not self tapping. Why include new screws that will not work? Suggestions: 1. Indicate the size of self tapping screws needed in the online item description allowing customers to purchase the correct screws before the item arrives. I had to take the new timer to the hardware store to find correct self-tapping screws. or 2. Include the proper self-tapping screws with the timer and remove the incorrect non tapping screws.

Washer would not advance past wash cycle
Used internet research (Whirlpool support, YouTube videos) to find problem and repair procedure. Timer removal and replacement was simple. The control knob on my washer screws on and off. The knob must be removed before you can remove the timer. Other washers may use a fastener.
