This is a replacement water filter cap for your refrigerator. The cap is made of gray plastic and is approximately 2.5 inches in diameter. It is sold individually. Is the cap really necessary? I need to replace the water filter and realized the cap was missing. Can i remove the old filter without the cap?

Hi Freda, thank you for your question. That really depends on your own preference. This cap hides the hole that the filter pushes into however it also gives you leverage to actually twist the filter and install it into place. You have to push as well as twist to install the filter and the cap makes that easier. Good luck with your repair.

Hi, the filter cap has broken off and the filter is stuck in the fridge. Will we be able to putt this cap on while the filter is still inside? Or is this a bigger issue? Thanks very much in advance!

Ice would not dispense and the water filter cap was missing
Remove two screws on shaft cap. Remove cap. Remove shaft and white o ring. Put o ring on new shaft and install. Replace cap and two screws. The cap for the water filter was harder. Without a cap, it took me a few minutes to wiggle the filter out enough that I could put the new cap on. Both parts worked perfectly. Both are horribly designed and will likely need to be replaced again.
