To remove the agitator, pry off the fabric softener dispenser or cap and remove the inner lint cap if applicable. If the washer uses a wash plate, you can use a screwdriver to pry off the cap covering the mounting screw. Use a square drive to loosen a retainer to remove the agitator's upper section before you can remove the lower section. Use an appropriately sized socket with an extension to un-thread the screw, securing the agitator or wash plate. with the screw unthreaded, you can lift the agitator or wash plate straight up to remove it.
