Turntable not moving, intermittent "grinding sound"
The microwave is installed above my gas range, and has a sheet that holds the vent screens and light bulb cover. I removed 3 screws holding this sheet in place at the front edge closest to me. The edge furthest from me (closest to the wall) had grooves that the sheet slid into. I could not set the sheet down on the counter as the electrical wire was anchored to the sheet and too short to reach the counter below. I used some jars to prop up the removed sheet so that there would not be any strain on the electrical wires. The wires connected to the motor with a bracket that was removable by hand. The old motor was mounted with one screw and a small arm that slid into a groove at the bottom of the microwave. I installed the new motor with the screw. At first I missed the groove and it was kind of crooked. I immediately detected and corrected my error . I made sure the piece inside the microwave that turns the turntable was aligned on the motor shaft. I closed it up and was delighted to see my food turning again! By the way, the microwave is actually an Ewave, made by MC Appliance Corp., the makers of Magic Chef. It came with the house in 1994.
1) Important: Remove Power! (Leads to motor are live - you will get shocked) 1.5) Remove bottom cover (4 screws) 2) Slide spade terminals off motor (observe polarity / colors) 3) Remove 2 screws holding defective motor on 4) Affix metal sealing decal to mtor (prevents oil seepage) 5) Put circular spacer (small tube shaped cylinder) on new motor 6) Mount ne motor using two screws removed in #3 7) Attach Wires to motor 8) replace bottom cover (4 screws)
Get the turntable motor. Flip the microwave over. Undo the silver plate with two screws. Unscrew the old motor. Unplug the two lines from the motor. Install the new motor in reverse steps. Done. Easy
remove 3 screws under cabinet, pan drops down giving access to turntable motor.Inside oven remove turntable and driven spur. Remove single screw under cabinet disconnect plug from motor and replace with new motor. install in reverse order.
After unplugging the microwave, removed four screws from underneath the front of the microwave, and lowered the panel enough to disconnect the power connector. Then, pulled off the clips providing power to the Turntable Motor. Removed panel entirely to access Turntable Motor. Unscrewed both screws holding motor in place, removed old motor, replaced new motor (realigning the turntable plastic part), reconnected everything in reverse. 10 minutes and done.
The hardest part was taking out original light bulb because screws on shield where hard to unscrew after all this years . The old bulb vent out leaving neck in socket. It took narrow electrical pliers to get neck out .The generic appliance bulb did not fit and had aluminum neck ,not recommended for brass sockets in ovens.Putting new light bulb in was not the problem.
Unplugged microwave (make sure you do this!) Removed screws along front bottom of microwave, dropped panel enough to get to the motor. Motor is held on with two srews, take them out and remove the two spade terminals to motor. Reverse directions to install.
I removed three screws to drop the panel that holds the lamps and filter. I removed one screw that held the motor in place and removed the jack that powered the motor. I reversed this procedure to put everything back in place and everything worked just fine.
