Hello Dan, thank you for contacting us. Based on the description that you have provided, we would recommend checking the compressor overload protector, part number PS8751178, to fix the issue. Glad to be of assistance!
They told me it was a small black box, like for headlights in a car (can't remember what they called it) and said it would be $15-$20 for the part. One repairman told me the compressor was out & that would cost me $850 plus labor! On line it is only $250, but was told that's not the problem, that this little black box would fix it

Hello Lori, thank you for your question. Without knowing exactly what you are referring to " a small black box" we do see that the Compressor PS12739218 has, does show what you describe. This part must be installed by a licensed and trained LG technician that is able to perform a software update, which is required for the installation of this compressor. Part number CJT30000002 is needed to perform the update. Also, the three pins on the side of the new compressor may be oriented differently than the original. If different, when installing the new compressor the compressor electrical connector must be rotated 45 degrees counter-clockwise. Ice machine not producing ice or very little. If I replace the filter it will produce ice for a few days, then stop. I’ve replaced the filter 3 times in about a month and get the same results.

Hi Scott, thank you for getting in touch. First, we would recommend making sure that there is no issue with the water supply to the refrigerator. If that is not causing the issue and you have already replaced the filter, we would recommend checking the filter housing, part number PS11708118, as it is most likely faulty. We hope this information is useful!
This repair was easy. The ice maker assembly is basically a plug and play unit that requires first removing the ice bucket as described inside the freezer door. Next, remove several screws the support the unit, then gently lifting the ice maker assembly out, just far enough to access the 2 electrical plugs that operate the unit. Caref
... Read moreully unplug the old unit and remove it. Next, plug the new unit and then reverse the disassembly process. I could have done this in 10 minutes had I not been careful not to break anything. No special tools are required.
Removed ice dispenser and display with small screwdriver from front of the fridge. Pried out the whole piece slowly. This exposed the motor that activates the chute. Plugged in the new motor before any removal to verify the motor was the problem. When it worked, removed old and installed new. 3 screws. Piece of cake.
I paid for the expedited shipping and they sent me a cheap knockoff attempt at the part that had the wrong size hole. So they refunded me the money I paid for the part but not the shipping, and then I crushed the part they sent me with a hammer and threw it away.
