Why is this fridge making a loud sound. It works fine, but will suddenly make a loud sound for few minutes then quite down.This happens few times in a day.?

Hello, Thank you for your question. Open the freezer door while the fridge is running. If the noise doesn't get louder when you open the freezer, pull out the fridge. Most refrigerators have a condenser fan motor. Unscrew the back cover and listen, you'll be able to tell whether the noise is coming from the fan or the compressor. I removed the one screw holding cover in place contained the thermostat . Next , I removed the thermostat from the plastic housing. NO screws, it just clippped in. I replaced the old with the new and reinstalled the cover. 2 minutes max. Sears said the part was obsolete but Partselect had what I needed.
