several grate pads fell out/lost /broke during cleaning
The only real issue was locating the proper adhesive to ensure that the new pads would not fall out. The small insert paper slip in the package noted that a RTV adhesive should be used. After much searching at the home improvement super store, I learned it would be found at an auto supply store. It is black, and is for high temp use. It is available in a small tube for around $2.00. The RTV is usually used to make gaskets for heat/oil exposure in auto repair. I did have trouble removing a broken stub from a pad that had broken off in the hole. I used an awl to get what I could and push the rest into the hole deeper, then insert a new pad with along with the adhesive.
There was a crack in the porcelain not letting it spark
I used a screwdriver to pry the electrode assy. out of the burner. then disconnected the wire. Then just connected the new electrode and place the assy, in the burner.
broken ignitor insulation; repeated sparking after burner lit
Disconnected gas & electric connections; lifted unit out of countertop onto padded table upside down. Unscrewed ~16 sheet metal screws for access. Removed bad ignitor by driving off retaining clip. Had to remove burner (3 screws) for access to install retaining clip on new ignitor. Reassembled, reinstalled. Works like new!
Original bumper pads NOT glued into the burner grates. Hence they began to disappear during routine use and cleaning. Very simple repair with a little glue this time around. But fairly expensive for a very small part set
Been looking for grate pads for 10 years and finally found you site and part # WPL 814323. Wasn't sure that they would fit but couldn't even find new grates so decide to try them --Fit perfect. Kitchen aide stove top gas with round grates. Used the drill to clean out the holes with broken pads still embedded. With clean holes the new pads just screwed in like the originals. Thank you very much
Spark Ignition Electrode was not sparking properly
Used a pair of pliers and pulled firmly on ignit. elect. till the retaining clip pulled off the bottom of the elect. The wire pulled off the bottom of it and I had to use a long- thin- nose set of needlenose pliers to pull the wire out of where the elect. came out.Plugged wire in place and snapped electrode back in place without using the retainer clip.Works great. Thanks Wade
remove grate - flip upside down - be sure holes are clean and dry - using toothpick, swab some RTV sealant into the holes and a bit on the pads ... insert pads till they seat - be sure to hold in place till all air is evacuated - wipe excess RTV with paper towel...DONE
Removed cooktop; replaced spark module. Originally ordered igniter switch - in error. Returned and ordered spark switch. (Should have studied the electrical diagram first. )
