The driver (coupling) on my Kitchenaid Blender disintegrated.
I decided to see if I could dislodge the faulty coupling. I placed a screw driver under the coupling and pushed up. It dislodged. Subsequently I found a youtube video that indicated that was exactly what I should do. I ordered the part from parts select and placed the coupling on my blender. It screws in counterclockwise. It works fine. I am very satisfied.
Very simple I turn off the Refrigerator and disconnect the bad ice maker, removed the part. I connect the replacement parts and voila the ice maker been making ice same that day.
to replace the coupling you take the bottom off the blender and loosen the screws that hold the bracket and fan -then comes the hard part-the shaft screw is bolted through every bit of the guts then into the coupling. It is a lefthand thread. I ended up having to fabricate a piece of metal that slipped into the top of the coupling (in the teeth.) Then I secured the metal piece-it was just a twi inch piece of steel- in the vise, I held the blender and I got a big guy to attack the shaft bolt with a bunch of pressure and a straight screwdriver. It finally popped and I was able to unscrew the old coupling and replace it with the new. Reminds of when guys put on lug nuts and I have to try and get them off. But I saved at least $100.
First I disconnected the washer and used a shop vac to suck out remaining water throught the effluent tube. I then pulled the washer out from the wall and opened up the panel in the back where I saw a penney in the baffeled catch basin and, a wad of lint wrapped around what looked like three 7" wires. I opened up the top with the putty knife and flipped it bacl. I then proceded to remove the top sections of the tub (soap/bleach dispenser, etc) then I removed the dome using a stubby screwdriver to 'pop' the internal catches. The next thing to come out was the perforated baffel. I could see the blockage through the drain holes in the bottom of the tub. I made a hook out of a coat hanger to extract the wad and 'wires'. Also, a pair of needle nose plires were used to pull the wires through the tub holes. Rhe unit was then re-assembled and has worked fine since. The 'wires', it turned out, were identified by my wife as the wires from some of her underwire bras! They will get handwashed henceforth!
Pictures of the blade assembly on-line really helped me know this was the correct part. It was an easy matter to swop out the old part for the replacement part. Blender works fine again!
Simple fix , new blade part. Bada bing! Blender works like a charm! Had no idea it would be so easy and so fast!! Part arrived 3 days later...and I had waited so long to get it fixed??
I was very surprised and pleased that the dome and blade replacement was still available. It took less than one minute to change. The ordering process was really easy and we had the part in less than two days!! You guys rock!!
