The metal band that tightens on the "flywheel" had broken.
I looked at just buying the metal band for about $5. But I noted it would have required having to compress a spring in a very small area. Since my saw is over 5 years old I figured I might as well get the whole chain brake assembly which includes the cover, and all the guts that are in that cover. This included the metal band and the spring already installed. I think my time is worth something and not being frustrated with getting all the parts back in place was worth the extra $15. As far as the actual work this is how it went. Remove two large nuts on side of saw. Remove damaged cover. Put on new cover. Tighten 2 nuts. Adjust tension of chain. Only trick would be to check that the chain brake lever is not in the forward position (where it would stop the chain from turning). It should be in the back position (towards the top handle) to put back on the cover. Love this saw by the way for cutting small trees for firewood.
