Door Hinge

PartSelect Number PS11744215
Manufacturer Part Number WP74008014
The hinges control the rate that the oven door opens and closes, and allows the door to stay open at an angle. This hinge can be used on either the left or right hand side of your oven, and is approximately 20 1/2 inches long. If your oven door will not open or close easily, you may need to replace this part. It may be a good idea to replace both hinges at the same time. If a spring has become loose on one hinge, the other hinge is likely to have the same issue. The repair is simple and only requires a Phillips screwdriver and a small bent nail. For a full step-by-step guide, check out the video below.

Oven door wouldn't close completely
Parts arrived in three days and it was an easy swap of the hinges but the same problem still existed: the oven door wouldn't close completely, so the oven light stayed on and the convection wouldn't work either unless the door closed all the way. The replacement hinge's springs apparently aren't strong enough to close it and the springs aren't adjustable - which is a design flaw. I did correct the problem though, by using three dollars worth of 1" round magnets, which I placed inside the door: they stay put and are strong enough to pull the door tight. Read more...

oven door would not stay closed tightly lost of heat
I replaced the door hinges and put a new handle on the oven door. I can not remember what was done exactly because I had a 2 and 4 yr old helping me. But I can tell you that the instructions included with the kit made the job easy. There were a few problems with the type of bit used to get the screws off (I needed a star type of bit, but used my phillips because that's what I had on hand). It worked fine, but it would have been better with the star tip screwdriver. There were helpfull hints that told me to prethread the new screws going into the oven door and frame. That was a big help instead of trying to hold the part and start the self threading screws. All in all I would order the parts again and attempt to do another repair on my oven, because it saved me a lot of money. Good luck to all the other first time repairers out there. Read more...

Oven Door hinge broke
0. Throw oven circuit breaker 1. Open oven door and slide/lift door off of hinge posts 2. Remove oven drawer 3. Slide oven out from between cabinets and turn so that the back is accessible. 4. remove Phillips screws holding the cover-rear and side panel to the stove. Note which screws have pan heads and which are hex head. 5. remove stove elements and pans 6. Raise stove Top Assembly and release ceramic element sockets from their clips. 7. Push the supports for the Top Assembly fornt and back to release them from their sockets so that the Top Assembly can be lifted to near vertical. 8. Remove the hex head screw holding the Control Panel End Cap to the side panel. (Steps 5-7 might be avoided if you have a small socket wrench that can get to this screw without removing the elements.) 9. Remove the other screws holding the top of the side panel to the "Box Burner" pan that sits under the Top Assembly. 10. Pull side panel slightly away from the oven and lift it to disconnect it from the posts that hold the side panel to the front of the oven. 11. Remove the two screws on the front of the oven that hold the hing mechanism. 12. tilt and remove the hinge. 13. Open the replacement hinge so that it can fit through the hinge opening in the front of the oven. 14. Reassemble. Read more...
