The door strike on your washing machine allows your washer door to lock properly, and operate efficiently. If you notice that your washer door will not open or close, leaks or the washer will not start or spin, you may need to replace the door strike. This part is for front load washers and is white in color. The part is made of plastic and is roughly 2 inches in length. To complete this repair, you will only need a Phillips screwdriver. Most of our customers found this repair to be easy and took less than 15 minutes to complete it. This part is sold individually, not as a part of a kit, and is a genuine part approved by the original manufacturer.

Broken Door Catch
This was one of the simpliest repairs I have ever done taking less than 5 minutes to complete. On the inner door I removed the two screws that hold the plastic catch in place. I then removed the broken catch and put the new catch in place. Finally I replaced the two screws that hold the catch in place and it was done. Read more...

Kenmore Washer Magnetic Door Plunger

PartSelect Number PS3618292

This magnetic door plunger, also known as the magnet holder, is built for your washer. When you order this part, you will receive the plastic housing and a spring that goes with it. The magnetic door plunger attaches to the inner door panel of the washer. It holds the door open when the washer is not running, and allows the door and tub seal to dry. This prevents mold and mildew from building up. Occasionally, the plastic tabs on the housing can break, and when this happens the part will need to be replaced. You may also notice that your washer lid or door will not close; this can also be a sign of a damaged magnetic door plunger.

Door would not close
There is a magnet at the bottom of the door which allows the door to be held ajar when the washer is not in use to allow the tub and gaskets to dry. A tab on the plastic housing which retains the magnet broke which allowed the housing to pull free of the door and stick itself to the machine preventing the door to close. Easy fix to replace the magnet was $18. Instructions were included in the box. Part number on the drawing was A165. PS3618292 Magnetic Door Plunger Read more...

This is a door striker, it is gray in color and is a part found on your washer. The purpose of the striker is to keep your washer door closed for usage. This piece will attach to your appliance lid and will activate the door switch when your lid is closed. The most common reasons for needing to replace this part are if your lid will not consistently open or close, and your washer will not consistently start. The only tool you will need to complete this installation is a Phillips screwdriver.

Door Striker broke which was a result of the hinge problem.
Removed the screws holding the door. (One was stuck a little so used an air drill with Phillips head to get the torque needed but someone with a strong grip could have done it as it came out very easily). I removed most of the screws holding the front to back of door to exchange the hinge. There was a problem with the old hinge slopping around and not allowing the door to align properly when shutting it. The new hinge works better. See note*** below on doorframe. I pretty much was able to get the door back together and make it work. I then exchanged the door striker with no problem. It has a built in key so you cannot attach it incorrectly. The next thing was to just reattach the door to the machine and it worked right off the bat. ------------- *** Unfortunately, there were two screw mounts in the Outer Door Frame - Chrome Part Number: PS3495258 that were broken. This doorframe is listed as a $200+ chrome part whereas it is actually a plastic material that is extremely over priced for what it is. Like I mentioned two of the screw mounts had broken off so those screws are just "decoration" now. (These are screws that basically hold the back cover to the front cover). If this becomes a problem, I will simply modify what I have and make the screws fit before I spend $200+ on that part. (It looks like this could be drilled out and a long screw and nut run through to make it work. TELL THE WASHER OPERATOR… just be careful opening and closing the unit (don't slam the door but carefully close it) and it should work a lot longer. I might investigate the make up of a washer the next time I buy one … but the chrome vs. plastic is a hard one to spot. I hope this helps. Read more...

Defective lid latch - Cabrio Washer
The instructions that came with the part were worthless. Essentially, unplug, put in new part, plug it back in. I spent a considerable amount of time on the internet and finally found a video showing how to open the top. Unlike other models, it is held down by clamps in the back rather than clips in the front. Once finding this information the installation was simple. Remove the clamps and the back of the console, slide the top forward and lift, remove and replace the lock and reassemble. You don't even have to remove the hoses. Read more...

wanting to see this new energy efficient washer work, with the lid open
There are a lot of complaints, with these new energy efficient washers, no matter the brand, on the amount of water that is being used, and not properly washing your cloths, while in the wash cycle.
I got this new MayTag washer, and wanted to see it work, for myself, so I can try to correct the problem. But in order to see it work, and fill, the lid has to be open, to observe it working.
To do so, there is a part connected to the lid, called a "STRIKE", that when the lid is down, it activates the electronics, making the washer run.
So, I purchased this strike, to insert it in the washer, so I can observe the washer running, while the lid is open. Very easy, no tools required, just stick it in the slot, where the strike, on the lid goes, when the lid is closed.

The door lock assembly is a part for your washing machine and tells the washer that the door is closed and locked into place. If the switch has shorted out and not locking, it is no longer delivering the message to the machine and it will not latch into place. If you find that your door will not close, open, or start, it is more than likely an issue with the locker switch assembly. The switch is located behind the front panel. You will need to remove the gasket to reach the switch.

Followed video from you tube. Man made it look very easy. Not! Hole that lock has to come through in back was very tricky. Also, DO NOT THROW OUT OLD PART UNTIL NEW ONE IS INSTALLED. The reason for that is there is a CLIP at the end of the old part that is needed to attach new part to wire section in control panel. NO WHERE is it mentioned at you got the clip from the old part. Luckily we saved it. Without that clip, you are screwed. Read more...
