Water Inlet Valve

(59)
PartSelect Number PS3497634
Manufacturer Part Number W10408179
The water inlet valve (Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve Kit) provides water for the ice maker and water dispenser. This part is located at the back of the refrigerator, and connects to the water supply. If your water inlet valve is malfunctioning, you could be getting a lack of water to the inside of your refrigerator. Your ice maker may not produce cubes or your water dispenser may not work. This breakage can occur from material fatigue or normal use, and is a sign the part should be replaced soon. The water inlet valve must be replaced if the solenoids no longer have continuity or the valve has internal blockage. The part measures approximately 6.5 inches long and 3 inches wide and is constructed of plastic and metal. It comes in blue/green/red.

The single water inlet valve, also known as a water solenoid valve, is used for refrigerators. This part is a solenoid-operated switch that releases water from the supply line to the water valve and into the icemaker mold when activated. If your icemaker is making small cubes, does not dispense ice or water, or leaks, this replacement could solve the issue. The tools needed for this repair are a 1/4 inch nut driver and a utility knife. Refer to the diagram provided by the manufacturer for further instructions. Trickle to no water from dispenser / very little ice
Shutoff water and turn off fridge. Remove the main water hose from the fridge with pliers, then remove back bottom plate of fridge where the hose was at (about 5 screws) in order to disconnect the hoses going into the valve by pushing in on the plastic colored fastener(blue & white) while pulling on the hose at the same time. Do this for each of the hoses. Then disconnect the wires from the valve and unscrew the valve(1 screw) from the back plate. Replace with new valve which comes with brand new fasteners for the hoses so all you have to do is insert the hoses in the valve and reverse the above process to install the valve. Read more...

This is a dual water inlet valve for your refrigerator/freezer. The water inlet valve is a solenoid-operated switch that, when activated, releases water from the supply line into the water valve. Refrigerator sat in storage in sub zero weather, water in Dual Water Inlet Valve froze, cracking valve.
This is the 2nd time I have used PartSelect, and this experience was as pleasant as the 1st. The exploded-view diagrams make parts identification very easy; and the photo of the actual part is such a great idea, it allows you to verify what you need. I also got my part (cross country, in 3 days)

Repair Procedure: Shut off water supply. It may be easier to work if you disconnect the water supply tube, but it is not required. On the backside of the refrigerator, remove the bottom, black plastic protection panel. You will need a nut driver or battery-powered screw driver with a 3/8" socket tip on it. Next, remove the black metal panel that holds the water inlet valve in place. Remove screws with a nut driver. 1st remove the two flat-pin power connectors. (They are different sizes and color-coded, so there is no room for making a re-hookup mistake). Then proceed to remove the hoses. The hoses are pressure-lock tubing, so push the plastic disk in or down where the tube goes into the main body of the valve. Do this for all three hoses (tubes). Switch water valves and reverse the procedure. **Be certain that the tubes are pushed back in as far as they can go; if you do not re-seat the tubes, the pressure from the water going back in the valve, will blow the tubes right out the valve (ask me how I know this!). Once reassembled, turn the water back on slowly. Make sure you turn the water supply valve all the way open, it seats itself internally when you do and is less prone to drip leaks. That's it! (As a former kitchen remodeler, I find this a great DIY project).

This part is a solenoid-operated switch located at the bottom of the refrigerator. When the water inlet valve is turned on, water is released from the supply line through the water valve and into the compact icemaker mold. The kit includes the mounting hardware and bracket plastic tubing fittings. The retaining nut must be cut off the plastic water line and gently pushed into the new valve. To remove, press down on the ring that the tube slides into. Refer to the installation instructions for further guidance. no water getting to ice maker
The ice maker had been slowly dying and one day just stopped making ice. No water was getting to the trays.

I read that this could be caused by a failure of the valve, even though the continuity test indicated that the solenoid was okay.

I ordered the part Friday afternoon. It was delivered Saturday. I did the repair in 10 minutes.

I pulled the fridge away from the wall.

I unplugged the fridge. I closed the water supply valve.

I unscrewed the two mounting screws using a flat head screwdriver.

I pulled the old valve out from refrigerator.

Using an adjustable wrench I detached the water supply from the valve. I detached the hose leading to the ice maker from the valve.

I pulled the electrical connectors from the connectors on the valve.

I attached the hoses to the new valve, attached the electrical connector, screwed the new valve in its place, opened the water supply, plugged the fridge back in, checked for leaks, and waited for a few hours.

My ice maker is working better than it has in at least two years.
