Rinse Aid Cap was not secured and during dishwaher run the cap sat on the heating coil and melted.
This is simple, we don't know exactly how, but when we used the dishwasher the cap must not have been twisted correctly, and after the dishwasher shut down we discovered the cap was on the heating coil and melted. I know that it was easy to fix, but the reason I ordered it from PartsSelect was their price was much lower than Kitchen Aids, (the maker), Lowes (where we bought it), and other sites we searched for the part. This is a replacement cap for the detergent/rinse aid dispenser. If the rinse aid cap is damaged or missing, you may notice too much rinse aid in the dishwasher. The cap simply screws in to the dispenser, so if your cap is damaged you can simply screw it out, then screw in the new one. The rinse aid cap is approximately 2 inches in diameter and is sold individually. This is an OEM part, directly from the manufacturer.

This rinse aid cap or fill cap is for your dishwasher and it screws into the jet dry dispenser. Sometimes the cap can become loose and fall out, which can cause it to melt from the heater. If your cap is damaged or missing, this is the part you will need to replace it. It is made of white plastic and is a little more than an inch in diameter. This rinse aid cap is sold individually.

the rinse aid cap fell into the bottom of the dishwasher and got burnt by the coils. It was letting the rinse aid empty out every time I used the dishwasher because the seal was broken.
I just put the new cap on and that was it. Read more...

This genuine Whirlpool cover is a key component of your dishwasher, compatible with several models under the Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, Inglis, and Magic Chef lineups. It serves as a sump cover, attached to the tub bottom, channeling and collecting water directly into the pump to ensure optimal functioning. For your safety, we recommend unplugging the dishwasher or switching off the house circuit breaker before installing this piece. A pair of work gloves is also advised to guard your hands during installation. Be certain of the part number's compatibility with your particular model before purchasing. Its design may vary in size and shape so a precise fit is essential for appropriate functioning.

Lower wash arm cap was worn thin allowing the spray arm to hit the dish rack.
The actual problem was the plastic wash arm cap was worn down and not holding the spray arm in place allowing it to hit the lower dish rack and stopping it from turning. The cap is on a threaded steel stem and is easily removed. The spray arm lifts off the stem and its replacement slips right on. Then install the new wash arm cap by screwing it on the stem.
