I have a 26 year old stove top and the electric coils heated intermittantly. I got tired of banging on them to get them to work. I went to various local stores ( Lowe's, appliance stores) and the parts would have been twice the cost and taken a while to come in. I then googled your site and found
I popped out the old burner cartridges and gladly threw them away and popped in the new ones. They work great and no banging! I changed out the old grease filter in the down draft and put the new grill grate on top of the grill in seconds. The timer knob fit well but the burner knobs did not so I had to return those. My "new" stove top looks basically the same except new. The grill grate being black updates the look somewhat. The best thing is that the burners work. Thanks for everything. Read more...

Replaced grill with cooking elements
Bought a new house last fall. Jenn-Air range had two element cooktop with two element grill. Oven went out and while service man was here, I asked him to check on the price of another two heater element panel to replace the grill. He subsequently called to say the part I wanted was not available. I immediately got on the internet and did a search. Found it "ships same day" for what I thought was a very reasonable price at PartSelect. Unplugged the grill and plugged in the cooking plate. We now have four usable "burners" instead of two. Old element was worn out (burst in line)
First, I cut the power to the stove to be sure no electrical current could be conducted. Next, I removed the two screws that hold the heating element to the back of the stove. Then, I removed the oven racks and slowly slid the heating element out until I could see the wires that attached to it. Because the element has the female end of the wire, I pulled the male ends out of both the left and right side of the element.. This releases the old element and I discarded it. Next, I took the new element, slide the male ends into the new female ends that protruded from both the right and left side of the element. I crimped these slightly with my pliers to make sure that they would stay secure when I pushed the element into place. With the new element securely attached, I slowly slid the element into place, this forces the exposed wires to be retracted out of sight and in the insulated part of the oven. I then took the two screws that I had to removed in the beginning, and used them to fasten this new heating element to the back of the oven. Finally, I turned the power back on and the element worked fine. Read more...

Cracked top
Some small spice bottles fell out of the cabinet above the stove and one of them cracked the glass top. The model number of the range was underneath, on the cross member between the right front and rear legs. Took a while to find that.

Replacing the top was relatively easy. Three screws on the left side and three on the right side, two in the back. Three wire harnesses to disconnect and reconnect, but they snapped apart easily and could only connect back one way, so no worries. Each of the four burners was attached to the underneath side of the stove top, held in place with two screws, so it was simple to transfer them from the old top to the new one. I paid attention to "center" each of them within the circular openings in the metal framework underneath the stove top.

When I say screws, they were not philips or slotted, they were actually 1/4 inch hex head lag screws, so you need a hex driver or 1/4 inch socket.

Moving the appliance out of its slot in the counter was the challenging part. It was screwed to the floor with two long screws, one right through the model number label, which fortunately I could still read. The downdraft fan motor was screwed to the floor underneath the range. I hoped not to to move it or disconnect its flexible venting and luckily I didn't have to. I pulled the stove out only five or six inches, and then I lifted it upwards with the prybar and slid a few small 2x4 blocks underneath, raising it just enough to get to the screws that held on the top.

After installing the top, I removed the blocks to lower the stove back down, slid it back into the opening, and put the two long screws back into the floor to hold it in place. Some stoves might not be screwed to the floor. Mine was only because it barely covers the opening in the counter and if it got knocked around even a little bit, it would expose the opening and maybe even risk chipping or cracking the glass top against the ceramic tiles of the counter top.

Took maybe 45 minutes from start to finish. I worked slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the new top, especially while putting the stove back into place.

Mother-in-law dropped a pan on the ceramic glass top
Turn off the circuit breaker to the oven and put tape over the switch of the circuit breaker so your mother-in-law won't accidently turn it on. Removed the bottom false tray and disconnected the down draft flex hose. Pulled the oven out from the center island. Removed all of the top phillip screws, marked a zip lock bag for each different type of screws. Laid a telephone book and a towell on the top shelf of the oven. Removed the broken glass and carefully laid the new glass in place and reconnected the screws and put the oven back in place and reconnected the flex hose for the down draft. Make notes in disconnecting and reconnecting the front knobs and face plate to the stove (let the wires hang with the front plate) along with some side plates. Read more...
